  • Family Guy is frequently clever. The show can be annoying because the A and B (and occasional C) plots are usually hollow (with some notable exceptions) and serve only as connecting tissue for the cutaway gags, but the cutaway gags are often very funny.

It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s great for a laugh every now and then.

  • What do you think 'Stalinism' is, besides "Marxism but bad" as framed by people who are already staunchly anti-marxist?

I’ve been told by people who hold communist ideals that there’s a difference between Marxism and the brutal totalitarian implementation that was Stalinism in practice. People far more knowledgeable than I am have made this distinction better than I can articulate.

Would you argue there isn’t a distinction?

  • Gotta move with the times, man. Emojis are a great way to add tone to text-based conversation for those who didn’t grow up in IRC chatrooms, learning to apply tone to the text itself.

Excessive use of emojis can be annoying, but in concept I think they’re fine.

  • Lemmy.world, an anti-Marxist instance

I wouldn’t call Lemmy.world anti-Marxist. I would say there has definitely been some knee-jerk to the heavy-handed moderation of Lemmy.ml, but being opposed to the more extreme methods of Lemmy.ml doesn’t mean opposition to Marxism in concept. It means you’ll get a broader set of responses since criticism won’t get deleted by the mods/admins, but there are still plenty of leftists on Lemmy.world.

Similar to how opposing Stalinism doesn’t mean one opposes Marxism, you know?

  • You can actually irrigate at home, the sprayer is cheap and easy to use. I do it for my wife, whose ears get clogged frequently (no she does not use q-tips, she just produces a lot of wax and inherited the genes for it from her dad).

  • I’d love to know the reason for the downvote

Probably someone disagrees with your opinion and uses the downvote button as a disagreement button. There is no reddiquette here (not that it was ever followed on Reddit).

Sometimes it really annoys me, because I would like the chance to be shown a different perspective and perhaps respond to it, but instead just a downvote.

  • (but I don't really go to many concerts because fuck Ticketmaster)

You can often (though not always) buy tickets directly from the venue in person or over the phone. You avoid Ticketmaster fees this way, though they may end up emailing you the ticket in Ticketmaster anyway.

  • Sometimes I feel like I do nothing.

My productivity is pretty low since I got promoted to one of our “lead developers.” So much of my time is spent looking at other people’s code, answering questions, mentoring, etc. Task switching becomes a huge issue, where even if I have time I’ve been pulled back and forth and it takes me like an hour to get back into whatever I was doing. It can take weeks for me to close tickets sometimes. And sometimes even when I have busy days, I come away feeling like I did nothing.

It’s definitely giving me Peter Principle vibes sometimes. And though my manager always tells me I’m doing good work, I feel like he’s too disconnected from my day-to-day, and that surely my Scrum Master and Product Owner are trying to get me replaced.

It’s…not a great state of mind, even if I know it’s bullshit. They wouldn’t be giving me raises if they didn’t think I was worth it. But…still. I’ve never stayed at the same job this long, and part of me keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop.

    Imposter syndrome is a bitch.
