  • Same here. If I’m connected to my gym’s wifi, start a workout.

After a certain time of day, have then turn on my bedroom lights so I can read. If the lights are on, turn them off and turn on the white noise. If the white noise is on, set my sleep focus.

Otherwise, take me to my favourite shortcuts and let me select one of those.

  • Let people enjoy things, unless that thing is not letting people enjoy things.

  • My question was rhetorical, but I didn’t make it obvious. Most religions isolate their members, but it just depends how much.

My point is that most religions are culty, it’s just a matter of how much.

Sometimes it’s so hard to tell the difference that one must ask themselves whether there is one. Are religions just normalized cults?

  • You just described season 2 of Clone High

  • What’s the difference between a religion and a cult?

  • I somewhat agree, but for my own mental health I’ve had to try and avoid it if I can. I still stay informed, I just don’t want US politics in every area of my life. I probably agree with most people on this site politically, I just don’t want to be so involved in that mind space all the time.

It also feels very US-defaultism to put US memes here all the time. Sure, most people here are probably American, but not everyone is.

  • The idea isn’t to get rid of bots. It’s to make money off them.

  • Anyone who drives a car

  • Ethics don’t make money. We don’t live in an ethics driven society.

  • No problem! It’s something I didn’t realize I would use either until I used it all the time on Apollo.

  • It’s cropped, and it only shows the comments you want to show instead of the many parent comments you don’t. Plus it includes the post details. The left and right images are very different.

  • Right. The reformation also spawned the protestant church. Joel Osteen doesn’t exactly embody the anti-indulgence church either. If the reformation had led people away from the church, it would have fixed it. Instead there are multiple sides, each one pointing at the other and saying “well, we’re not like them though”.

  • The issue isn’t intelligence. The issue is that they’re terribly understaffed. So they’ll use their staff to go after a larger group of small offenders instead of going after the few at the top who have big lawyers. Using AI, hopefully they can target the people who can truly afford to pay their taxes. Or we can also budget more towards funding the IRS properly and getting way more taxes paid overall as a result.

  • Depends on the app. Mlem is native, and Voyager is a web view app wrapper. But Voyager definitely doesn’t feel like a web view. It was written to feel like a native app, I’m really impressed. And that’s coming from someone who generally hates web apps.

  • This is what I want. It’s a chance to continue living, even after my consciousness has passed. My death will feed new life, and I find that beautiful.

  • “Within the airline’s control” is pretty clearly outlined in the law. It’s not a grey area.

The law also states that the new booking must be reasonable. And before you say that “reasonable” is grey, it gives examples of that. Missing the connecting flight would be unreasonable. So would missing the purpose of the trip. A refund would be pretty easy to ask for in this circumstance.

  • Policy doesn’t matter. The recent law overrides their policy.

Refunds — If the alternate travel arrangements offered don't meet your travel needs

If an airline (large or small) offers you alternate travel arrangements that do not meet your travel needs, you are entitled to a refund.

  • You’re entitled to a full refund for that at least, but getting it and rebooking a flight that works will be another annoyance.

  • Think of the jobs they’ll create if they don’t pay their share of taxes! /s
