  • I’m a big fan of Piped / Yattee, but I had a lot of problems recently, because most videos won’t load. Also privacy redirectors that redirect YouTube URLs to Piped don’t work anymore, because the video won’t load. So I had to watch a couple of videos directly on YT recently.

Possible that YT pushed some API changes or such, which makes it difficult for the privacy proxies to work. Don’t know, but IMHO it used to work much better in the past.

  • It worked on me… 😉 Anyway, I am quite happy here in Lemmyworld and this one also does not defederate that much. It’s possible that Beehaw is the little happy island for the people there, and I wish them to remain happy, but I prefer an instance with less rules and less defederation.

  • I didn’t even bother to watch the race today. It was clear that Verstappen would win. You can still watch it, if you are kinda fond of high-tech cars and such, but in terms of competition this has become boring.

The only thing that still somehow interesting, is what is happening, behind Verstappen, who isn’t to be seen anyway much, because he’s usually so far ahead that race cameras don’t even track him.

  • There are enough „pro god, pro guns, pro life“ women and MAGA-wives out there.

  • It’s a cultural war, I doubt that any of the “pro-life fundamentalists” will be impressed by this.

  • Why did they take out Lewis that early? Did they think “P9 is safe, good enough” while there were still drives on the course?

  • But isn’t every good kid with a gun a solution against a bad kid with a gun? /s

  • Their philosophy and rules were a bit of TL;DR for me.

EDIT: I guess I would be in constant fear of breaking the rules there…

  • In short - and that is only the Georgia case - he was trying to overturn the election result by putting pressure on a state secretary in Georgia during a phone call, which was made public, where he was telling that guy (let’s name him “Bob”): ”Hey Bob, just get me those 10,000 votes I am missing somehow…”

I may sound biased, but Trump has absolutely no respect for democratic principles if they are not delivering the results he wants to have. If this guy should get another term, he might be a real threat for American democracy.

  • Wow, that face expression is as evil as it can get. I bet he thinks: ”You’ll all be diggin’ in my coal mines when I win the next election…”.

  • Well, yes and no. It should probably be a state-run system or at least a heavily regulated system where the companies are limited in their profit making. No idea how an ideal system could look like. Here in Germany there is a two-fold system, which a generic public health insurance (with several companies offering those insurance services), where every employee pays a certain percentage of his salaries as insurance fee (actually the total fee is split 50/50 between employer and employee). Service is rather basic, but sufficient.

And then there is the possibility to get a private health insurance contract, if your income is above a certain level, which interestingly is (for the most time) lower than that in the general public insurance, but service is much better (e.g. you usually get doctor appointments much faster if you are a “private patient”). The only downside is that you don’t know how much you will have to pay when you get old, and once you are out of the public insurance you can not go back (only if you income falls below the private insurance entry level, which is rather unlikely).

It’s not ideal but it works for the most part and with some exceptions (like new teeth, where you have to pay a substantial part by yourself) you don’t have to be afraid of any health problems, operations or whatever, because that’s all covered. Those insurance companies are treated like public service companies and prices for medication and medical (doctor) services are subject to agreement between the government and the medical associations representing doctors, hospitals etc., but I guess those companies still make profits and the doctors have good earnings.

I get your point, but even with a certain level of protection you’re probably still better off than with no protection at all. However, the system should also not be based on profits and shareholder value, that’s true.

  • I thought he was a good mayor, making New York better/safer than it was before. But I don’t know too many details about his time as mayor

  • That’s what a health insurance would be good for. But for many Americans that would equal communism.

  • The whole election system in America is flawed, this “the winner takes it all” system combined with the electoral college, which can turn out to ignore the majority vote is laid out to foster a “them against us” mentality. And before you let the other side win (“bohooo, they are all communists…”), you’d rather give criminal your vote. Coalitions and compromises like in other countries with a “majority system” are not very likely in this constellation.

  • I wonder how this one respected politician could end up as a pathetic figure spreading lies about a “stolen presidency” next to a porn shop in order to support a notorious liar and former reality TV host?

  • What is actually the definition of “financial freedom”? Having (earned / gained) enough money, so that a person has no need to go to work anymore? If that’s the case, I would expect that number to be much, much lower than 50%.

EDIT: sorry, I just read it in the article. If “financial freedom” just means to work and live more or less without having to worry about financial obligations and what will happen tomorrow, then less than 50% is a rather shocking figure.

  • I gave it another thought, and if they really believe that if anything touching their anus would make them gay, then it should also remain untouched by a turd, and they should stop defecating to prevent themselves from becoming gay. Life will be sacred then - and short…

  • There had been some downtimes, apparently due to DDoS attacks, but since then everything is fine. Actually I am not a fan of such elitarian approaches, with a hand-picked user base and too strict moderation. I am actually quite happy on Lemmyworld and was curious what would make Beehaw so special. But I’ll keep Lemm.ee in my mind as a possible alternative.

  • This is what multiple Miggs would say… - well, not anymore!
