  • If a construction worker started cutting beams and caused the building to collapse that wouldn't be "not doing their job", that would be active and malicious sabotage. This isn't even remotely an apology, it makes it sound like they just ignored a call for help, not actively created a situation that no one asked for.

  • It's a form of parasocial relationship. It can trigger the same feelings as if you were in a room with some friends chatting. You get to "know" the people's personalities, you can anticipate their reactions to things, you get invested in their personal relationships.

  • That's what this is about... Continual training of new models is becoming difficult because there's so much generated content flooding data sets. They don't become biased or overly refined, they stop producing output that resembles human text.

  • Subatomic particles act in insane ways that are absolutely not mechanical or predictible. A very limited size of object behaves "normally". I think believing that the universe mostly acts like our everyday objects is the skewed perspective.

  • These types of figures are still important to know. You want to see if certain populations are being affected disproportionately and have a baseline to work from when seeing how policy changes are working.

If you make a policy change and see recovery overall but you're still getting 52% of Latinos reporting insecurity, you've done something wrong and you have data to back it up.

  • What's funny is right at launch I would have seriously considered upgrading, but I'm on second gen Ryzen and that platform was deemed not new enough at the time. Now they've added a bunch of BS and even though I think they've removed the restriction I'm over the new shiny thing and am looking heavily into a full linux setup.

  • Are you concerned about sensitive data leaving the PC or some sort of infection (like a crypto-locker) being brought onto it? Also, what is your threat level? Are you likely to be targeted specifically?

With an airgap, it would be pretty difficult to get data off of it without being onsite. The most important things would be physically securing the device (locked room), using full disk encryption, and using some sort of 2-factor login system. (hardware security key, like a yubikey ideally).

Securing against infection is nearly impossible, as stuxnet showed. Your best bet to beat these is some common sense security with what you're transferring and lots of backups. If you do find an infection, you just blow the whole system up and restore from a clean backup.

  • It took a lot longer from announcement to launch than anticipated. In that time Musk bought twitter and went full out in the open right-wing nut and several other automakers announced and released electric trucks.

The vehicle itself suffers from the panel alignment quality control issues that every Tesla suffers from but exaggerated because the body panels really need tight tolerances to look right. The grade of stainless steel they used isn't great for weather resistance and without a clearcoat it immediately starts to lose the factory finish.

  • This is legal vs rude. It certainly is legal and was in the terms of service for them to use the data in any way they see fit. But, also it's rude to bait and switch from being a message board to being an AI data source company. Users we led to believe they were entering into an agreement with one type of company and are now in an agreement with a totally different one.

You can smugly tell people they shouldn't have made that decision 15 years ago when they started, but a little empathy is also cool.

Additionally: When you owe your entire existence and value to user goodwill it might not be a great idea to be rude to them.
