  • There's one simple way to do it: stop milking it with ludicrous prices that make it inaccessible for the average consumer and stop trying to corner each implementation with your own proprietary closed market that becomes worthless when it goes down because all of your digital purchases were "digital subscription options". The problem with VR is that it now has a place in the market but one that is basically limited to a luxury market, and as such it will only include self enclosed ecosystems of novelty implementations that appeal largely to whales. It is basically an example of the hellhole the PC landscape would have been if governments back then had been as lax with bad consumer practices as they are now.

  • It doesn't matter how secure a bunker is, heat is going to get through, it is a slave to thermodynamics. Every bunker is a cooking opportunity.

  • Now consider your typical 40 hour week, for 52 weeks, for several decades. It is higher than background radiation, objectively so. You get 10 hours of sun exposure, you risk sunburn and higher skin cancer rates as it adds up. There have to be dose limits for pilots, 100 hours of flight time per 28 days. For people who were stuck in front of a CRT display, most of the radiation was also focused on their eyes. You got the numbers, now actually think about them.

  • Basically every person with a job, usually and specially in this market.

  • I love getting my eyes bombarded with the occasional ionization electron beam fired from the electron gun that make it past the phosphorescent screen.

I do not envy some of the ocular conditions some of the old long-time programmers in the industry had, although this is from personal experience. All CRTs generate Xrays, even if later on regulation would attempt to minimize the amount generated. and using them should still mean keeping your distance. The effects it has on your eyes are not instant, specially if you don't use them as part of your job.

A lot of the excessive warning from screens came from this era, where there was an actual risk. Unfortunately, there are planty of antivax-like CRT-radiation deniers, but fortunately, it's no longer a problem.

  • I'm sure the judge will recuse themselves to avoid any appearance of impropriety... /s

  • It's not really because it's their last chance, but because it is their best chance in the foreseeable future. One of their key allies, Russia, is close to falling under the weight of the economic consequences of its war, they are about to get complete reigns again in the US, in no small part to voter manipulation, and all they need is to stuff government a bit more to make it as much of a "democracy" as Russia's.

Not that I'm arguing against it being "their last chance", a lot of democracies are slowly wising up in their slow bureaucratic timescale about what's actually happening, how social networks are getting exploited, how just having one case against Cambridge Analytica did not so much stop the problem as acted as international advertising for its services, and how any advantages they thought they were getting are being undermined by those same networks propping up fascist on a global scale locally.

The US turning fascist is basically a whole globalist oligarchy turning on itself, and they know that they can no longer follow status quo or they will be toppled from down under by the those on top. The new populist fascist drive powered by the ultrarich wants to make the world eat itself before it eats them as we get closer to the consequences of global warming, resource scarcity, and population growth reaching its limits, not directly as a conspiracy but as a consequence of that's how they have always acted but now on a macro-scale.

  • People realize that he's just a propagandist saving face by playing both sides and now playing with the short attention span and memory of the idiots on the other side, right?

  • That's why Pelosi chose them, specially over AOC. She's the other side of the US oligarchy, the one that's ok with the slice of cake they have now and don't want to push the US into a complete dictatorship just to try to get more. She's one of the people in the democratic party that's most abusing federal insider trading and conflicts of interests.

  • was intended to evoke terror

So basically, the whole premise of the American death penalty? As opposed to the deaths and bankruptcies that create terror that health insurance companies are allowed to promote, or the terror created by those who arrest mothers getting their health insurance appeals denied because they echo their mottos back to them to attempt to suppress any popular support at a revolution?

I will say, with Trump getting voted in, Americans have shit timing at their attempts at revolutions. This is the last millisecond type of stuff, quite lacking and even somewhat (but not very) controversial.

  • Is that a furry rule?

  • I'm willing to bet this wasn't the reason that they banned you, rather, you got them upset by having an opinion they didn't like and speaking it outloud (like, say, saying Israel seems to be carrying out genocide on Palestinians), and they made a note of it so they could ban you in the next window of opportunity. They do this sort of bullshit all the time, sometimes using alts acting like assholes that never get banned no matter how many rules they break to try to rile you up. That way, they basically don't have to answer to anyone.

  • A nobleman went to a distant country to get royal power for himself and then return. He summoned ten of his slaves, and gave them ten pounds, and said to them, ‘Do business with these until I come back.’ But the citizens of his country hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to rule over us.’ When he returned, having received royal power, he ordered these slaves, to whom he had given the money, to be summoned so that he might find out what they had gained by trading.

The first came forward and said, ‘Lord, your pound has made ten more pounds.’ He said to him, ‘Well done, good slave! Because you have been trustworthy in a very small thing, take charge of ten cities.’

Then the second came, saying, ‘Lord, your pound has made five pounds.’ He said to him, ‘And you, rule over five cities.’

Then the third came, saying, ‘Lord, here is your pound. I wrapped it up in a piece of cloth, for I was afraid of you, because you are a harsh man; you take what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.’ He said to him, ‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked slave! You knew, did you, that I was a harsh man, taking what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow? Why then did you not put my money into the bank? Then when I returned, I could have collected it with interest.’ He said to the bystanders, ‘Take the pound from him and give it to the one who has ten pounds.’

Then the fourth came, saying, 'Lord, I killed the rest of your slaves and used the pounds to make myself a cushy house, saying I did so in your name, and in this house, I formed a cult where I told my followers I was totally an expert and a legitimate authority on your will, and now dedicate that cult to ask you for even more handouts while I and my council of zealots get rich and live cushy lives off of their backs' He did not say anything to him, but left quickly, wondering how far his engineer's catapults were effective from.

  • I mean, people are still fueling the flames now for not voting Democrat because AOC is being shafted by the establishment, ignoring the bigger picture. When the GQP proves to be far, far worse, they will still be spouting something akin that both sides are the same. Part of it has to do because propaganda campaigns plays both sides and this is the way the side that could vote Democrat is played nowadays.

  • Surprised this isn't considered "advocating violence".

  • Definitely, it would at least establish a precedent if they aren't held, which is something Trump would then not be able to abuse.

  • Ah, sorry, didn't realize all we had to do to solve the world's problem was switch over to idealistic make believe land.

  • See, then you are giving a murderer's message publicity. As opposed to UnitedHealthcare, responsible for far more many deaths, having the ability to have as much publicity and as many lobbyists as they want.
