  • Just read up on any of the different fediverse communities available.

  • There's a number of ways it could be improved, but I get the impression the devs and admins were really interested in a poor man's Reddit and are into that sort of monolithic instance control and quite opposed to the transparency that would required to do it any other way (like having the author of upvotes or downvotes visible or the name or an identifier linkable to the mod who performed a moderator action show up in the mod log any longer). At this rate, all I see it is becoming more monolithic and eventually more drama between instances (which there is already plenty of).

  • This is what they are referencing: https://edition.cnn.com/2024/09/19/politics/kfile-mark-robinson-black-nazi-pro-slavery-porn-forum/index.html

Judging by what they are saying, CNN KFile investigation bases their investigation mostly on "Robinson used ‘minisoldr’ all over the internet". They also claimed to have linked his email, which is slightly sus given that I doubt porn websites are into the habit of making them public. I tried to go over to the one they mentioned and no, it does not scream security, there are BBS better looking than that website, at least their login.

What seems to have motivated the investigation is that:

CNN’s reporting on Robinson’s comments comes a few weeks after The Assembly, a North Carolina digital publication, reported that Robinson frequented local video pornography shops in the 1990s and 2000s. The story cited six people who interacted and saw him frequent the stores in Greensboro, North Carolina. A spokesperson for Robinson called the story false and a “complete fiction.”

So I wouldn't be surprised if it's true, and I doubt CNN wouldn't be making those claims if they could be easily disprove as outright lies.

  • It probably depends on your account. If they don't think you are trying to game their system and you are a deep pocket consumer, they probably won't put up too much of a fight, they'd rather keep you hooked.

  • Wait, so you got charged a year later after returning it? They only issue refunds when it has been sent back, so they are charging you for their own inventory mismanagement, or worse.

  • That is like being baffled that someone remains religious after "reading the Bible". Everyone is reading from just a few select passages that suit them while ignoring what the rest say and imply about them and their religion.

  • Those were simpler times, where some adults weren't so insecure they could get offended by cross-dressing.

And then they killed all the Satyr plays because forced insecurities is a great way to make malleable societies upon which to build an empire to benefit the few.

  • It was on discount on Jihad R Us.

But seriously, doubt the relation can be considered much of a secret.

  • This reminds me of when during sieges during the Middle Ages they used to lob the bodies of the dead back inside the castle. I'm not sure if it's because of the lines they've crossed over and ignored regarding civilian casualties on this, or that this will essentially cause other parties to cross those same lines. This is giving ideas to China and Russia, and humanity has been far shittier in the past, I really don't want to see how bad we will regress to.

  • The guy literally denounced a portion of his own base during the sexist Bernie Bro scandal, and has always encouraged the vote to go to the right candidate when he saw he couldn't win. Based as fuck.

  • This always ends up being the ending of any such sites. All you have to search for is "Glassdoor" and "sued" to see why.

  • Ask kbin.social

It can happen because communities and users are monolithic. You lose your home instance, you have to create a new account somewhere else. The community is located in the instance that goes down, you can no longer participate in it and its former members all have to scramble if they want to participate.

  • The crab is always looking at the sea so that it never goes into it when going side to side. All it knows is anger. Deep.

  • The problem is that IP laws eventually are lobbied by the big copyright holders into being excessively long. How long did Steamboat Willie really have to be copyrighted for, and has their release into the public domain really affected Disney?

Eventually after you get back the money you invested, it's just free money, and people like free money so much they pay lawyers and lobbyists that free money so that they can keep it coming.

  • Even when it doesn't, it becomes its eventual outcome.

  • He sort of already gave away the validity of his claims when he said he didn't mind making them up.

  • Medical advances do not matter if they make you bankrupt or you cannot get access to them. Living a longer life with worse power of acquisition is both a load for society and a drain on their longterm quality of life (nevermind how it depends on a system of infinitely increasing population growth). Women voting and blacks riding in the back of buses is a US thing, one that is regressing. Videogames are an improvement on the quality of entertainment, if you are going to judge that as quality of life put yourself in a tube and live in VR, Now we export black lung to raw goods providers in China and Africa.

You've lost a huge amount of power of acquisition, but at least even though those things you can acquire are on the cheaper side, there's more and newer options to choose from. The loss of those jobs have consequences, even if they bring advancement.

  • Yes, the quality of life is certainly better not being able to afford a home with two working couples and being forced to go into debt for decades... That's why no one ever has any beef with boomers who regurgitate things like your comment.
