  • Since you've apparently seen so many, I would love for you to link me to a sports community that is actually active. Everything out there is completely dead, usually with one person reposting content from reddit or Twitter.

  • Not going to happen anytime soon. Lemmy seems to have mostly drawn in early tech adopters, communists, Europeans who hate cars, and not-quite-pedophiles-but-close-enough-that-it-makes-me-concerned types.

    I have yet to find any decent sports discussion here or anywhere in the fediverse.

  • Most of Europe (and even moreso the rest of the world) didn't have serviceable mobile internet until years after US and Canada, so it makes sense that they missed the initial wave of hotspot premiums that North America suffered through.

    And before any one tries to be snarky, yes Sweden rolled out 4G before anyone else, but it didn't take off until well after NA already dominated the space.

  • The first iteration was cool for awhile. It came out of nowhere and people spontaneously created art together, battled other groups trying to do the same, chose colors as their flag of war. I had a window open in the background that I would pop in on every ten minutes or so while I worked to try to support a small piece that I liked.

    Then people coded bots for it and it got hyper-organized. They announced the next one ahead of time and it absolutely destroyed the soul of the thing. The second and third ones were a fucking joke. Watching the time lapse was embarrassing as immediately the entire canvas was covered with flags and brands. Awful idea to bring here.

    In particular, it's low effort, attempting to be funny/snarky about about a pop culture or political news item, usually stolen from somewhere else and posted to the wrong community (why is this on asklemmy?), but it gets attention because it panders to the majority of the user base.
