So, if propaganda comes from the other side of the political aisle, which it does all the time in public school curriculums, would you be just as upset over it? I’m not agreeing with Pragers agenda either but when parents rally against terrible ideas being "pushed" onto their kids from the left wing loonies, they get called terrorists and trouble makers. Stuff like drag queen hour at an elementary school is supposed to NOT also be an agenda? Cmon. Please.
How about we keep ALL politics, agendas, propaganda and other crap like that out of classrooms and get back to teaching kids useful things like reading, writing and arithmetic? Dump the heavy social activism crap. Stay out of that stuff entirely. Just teach the basics.
I dont see why it’s harmful to simply move money away from one school to another. Kids are still being educated and usually in charter schools it’s better education. The public school system has had a monopoly on education for a long time and the results are iffy at best. We’ve thrown a gajillion dollars at it too and that never seems to amount to much. I do have a problem with politicians using power to draw kids into private schools that they have a stake in. That’s BS and crony capitalism. However, that’s not the norm.
The public education unions have always been a problem, at least here in NY state where I reside. They devour a ton of the money for their lavish benefit packages. Sure, they start at lower salaries than most with a masters degree but due to automatic raises and tenure they soon make great money. Oh and they only work about 2/3 of the time that regular full time people work due to all this "fluff" time off and breaks. They get all summer off too. Not a bad gig. Plus, the massive pensions here which are unsustainable are another separate issue. The unions always claim that tax increases and costs we have to eat are "for the children" except it appears the adults are the ones that actually benefit. Sorry, I have a problem with unions in general and the public education ones are some of the worst here.
The idea that whatever comes out of Govt's mouth should just be accepted as is. There are already serious issues arising with Fauci and Covid. Remember that guy? The battle cry was trust the science and shut up, little cretins. I dont want to go off on any Covid tangent but the idea that you just blindly accept what anyone tells you when it comes down to your lifestyle, standard of living, etc. should just be swallowed up without any questions is wrong, IMO.
Well - you're still making taxpayers pay for the greed and BS of colleges. Go after them instead. Just like you would if you bought a new car that was a lemon - you wouldnt ask taxpayers to bail you out, you'd go after the dealer or mfgr of the car. I dont get this "stick it to the taxpayers" paradigm being pushed here.
Also - an educated society doesnt have to all be college grads. There are tons of hard-working, successful people that didnt get near a college, or they just went for a few years. I know that many in society still snub their nose at trades blue collar work but guess who actually appears educated now? The kid making $45 bucks an hour as a welder with great benefits or the pissed-off gender studies grad with $200K of debt working at Starbucks? Sorry - Im sick of this "college or you're doomed" thing. Its been way oversold and they have saddled these kids with massive debt. Make them pay, not taxpayers.
Shouldnt the students that feel slighted go after the college then? Why let them off scot-free and force taxpayers to pay off the debt? Sue the college for false advertising which is pretty much what it was. Why go after the lenders? They didnt do anything wrong either. Its the colleges that started this mess with their ripoff prices, heavy handed sales pitches and false promises.
Geesh. Major downvotes here for you. That doesn’t bode well for any of us that care to be NOT hard left on like every issue. I’m hoping there is a little more balance here on Lemmy but perhaps not. The politics section is just more Trump, Trump but no mention of Biden or his sons shenanigans. There are more examples but we’ll see how it goes.
I know people like to chat with those who are like minded but I actually enjoy debating and discussing issues with people I might not agree with. It’s refreshing if carried on properly and agreeing with people on everything gets boring after a while, right ? :)
Good for you. EVs have a place in most households for quick trips and short errands. But that’s it. They have a huge set of issues that the anti ICE car brigade don’t wish to discuss. Face it, batteries are not a viable way to power the vehicles we all rely on and enjoy driving. Maybe as a second vehicle, yes but forget some big takeover. It’s so stupid.
Explain why? School choice is bad? A little competition amongst schools and higher standards is bad for kids? This sounds like union protectionism to me.
Why should young, inexperienced people run the country? I admit that the US Govt. Is a tad too old, especially the current president. But, that doesn’t mean we need a bunch of Berkeley students running things either. No thanks.
Look, I know, I was once a kid/young adult too and didn’t listen to my parents or senior people very often, went against the grain, etc. but you eventually realize that maybe they DO know more than you did when you were in your 20s or whatever.
You are correct that they did benefit from it, pretty much any loan or debt did create some immediate benefit for the person that took on the debt. However, unlike college debt, I think it’s safe to say that people with medical debt didn’t sign up to be sick or have a major health issue. Totally different than college debt where people made a conscious decision to get an overpriced degree possibly in a field that doesn’t have any jobs available. That’s just called a bad decision and there is no argument as to why taxpayers should eat that debt.
There are plenty alternatives to college which can lead to great careers. Or, at least go to a community college and/or somewhere cheaper. But, nope, students voluntarily signed up for the loans and didn’t think it through. Sorry, you’ll have to pay that back. Get a second job like many people did before you and pay it down. Might suck for a while. Such is life.
I suspect most people would be far more open to medical debt being forgiven or at least rates dropped to zero than college debt. They aren’t even close to the same thing.
Anything is better than Reddit, IMO. Place is impossible to deal with and the bans are handed out arbitrarily…. But only if you don’t tow the decidedly left-leaning line. Users there are also more likely to be sissies as in running to the mods if you dare question them or cause them to need their crayons and safe space. You get the idea. I’m hoping this place is a little more balanced .
Here ya go. The "experts" have a terrible batting average. Its embarrassingly bad. The end of the article/listing even has a quote from an IPCC scientist about how all of this nonsesne is mostly just financially driven aka "wealth redistribution" (surprise!) versus actually about the climate. Sorry.
Why is it wrong? Climate disasters have been being predicted and spewed about for a long time. What I understand is that there is more here than meets the eye. Look into more and you'll understand better. Try sources without agendas for best results.
No - Im not looking for anything, actually. I just would prefer that those that chest-thump about this stuff would walk the talk and take a "lead". But they refuse. What does "hit the brakes" mean? Are the rich going to also hit the brakes? Or is this all on us "little people" as usual?
Exactly - it is your duty to question the Government and the scientists that work for them. Lets be honest, the Govt's track record for truth is a tad suspect and thats being extra nice. As I said earlier, the alarmists have been selling this to us(or trying to) in differently wrapped packages now for several decades. Even back in the 1970's there were hysterical claims being made. None of it came anywhere close to being true. So, logically, people question it.
More importantly, people question the mitigation tactics which seem to only affect the lower/middle classes directly. Another tough thing for the average Joe to swallow.
Can you elaborate on the "hit the brakes immediately" or we're all going to die statement? What "Science" backs this claim up? Legit science please, not from agenda-laden website.
