  • I do about the same, but I have 2 huge differently sized feet (birth defect) 1 foot is 4 eu sizes smaller then the other. I usually buy 2 pairs size 39-42 and 2 43-46, so I have 4 pairs of 1 small and 1 large sock.

Alas, the large socks are usually the ones that develop holes 1st.

  • Are you alowed to insult a person, yes absolutely, but it only proves you're an absolute asshole. ;)

You can even state you think an ethnic group is bad. You can't state the same ethnic group is trash and should be whatever. That's discrimination and not allowed in democratic or even civilised societies.

In democratic/liberal societies you solve your differences via debate. The result may even be that the parties don't like each other, but as long as they can decide to live in peace together it's alright. Agree to disagree and continue to live your life is fine, trying to harm others isn't.

  • No, but you have to remember, freedom of of speach doesn't result in the right to insult or humiliate people, let alone call for violence. Freedom of speech should always be kept in check with protection against discrimination or violence.

The moment people start to try to split up societies (see what Trump does in the US) they're on the road to dictatorships like Russia and China has.

  • Skip the gun. No civilized country will let you have it.

  • As EU citizen I tend to:

    • Read the news from several newspapers and the independed public broadcasting/news service. (Get multiple views and explanations)
    • Hope that US isn't dumb enough to let a criminal become president again.
    • Hope that the world won't explode before I die.
    • Hope that the country won't flood before I die. (House is 4m below current see level)
    • Try to help the best I can with my knowledge.
    • Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
  • It's interesting to see that subscriptions are forced upon users everywhere.

I only game on mobile in games that are basically f2p. When I like something in that game or want to do a monthly pass I pay for that, once. I have deliberately no payment option what so ever linked to the mobile account as I don't trust Google not to sneak in an unwanted payment. (Or a game fritzing out and doing a payment for me)

Yes, games are entertainment and just like TV/streaming, a subscription could be useful for die-hard gamers, but I see digital content being 'sold' for buyers to 'own' and then the bought items being removed to much. Corporate greed is spiraling out of control.

  • Tiktok is bad because it's Chineese, Facebook is 'good' because it's American.

    Alas, that's all.

I used Facebook because everybody I know uses it. My wife and me are the 1st to delete that account, as we hate the constant tracking of Facebook. Alas, Google is even worse, but as Android user we're linked to that. I'm trying to minimize contact there as well, but it's hard with purchased apps and content.

For some strange reason having your own country or 'friendly' countries and their companies track you is 'good' and when less friendly countries or their companies do that it's 'bad'. When somewhat privacy minded, all tracking is bad.

When someone tels me they have nothing to hide, I'll ask if they would like a camera in their bathroom or bedroom, as they have nothing to hide. All say that's an unfair comparison, but it shows that there is nobody that has nothing they waht to keep private.

For me, US companies are even worse then the Chineese ones, as US companies will try to enforce US law and morals upon it's users. (But I don't trust either)

  • Wow, using h j k l to navigate in vi takes me back to last century.

As long as I can remember vim has been navigating via the cursor keys...

  • Technology isn't to enable users to do what they want, but to let corporations do what they can get away with.

  • A CD/DVD is a read only digital information carrier. It holds files which you copy when you rip the DD/DVD. The data is stored as indents in the surface marking untuched surface as 0 and indents as 1 (or the other way around).

The only way to damage CD/DVD data is physical, scratching the surface (changing the path of the laser light needed to read the data) or breaking the disc (making it unusable in the drive).

  • Depends I guess. I still have a ZX81, Atary TT, STfm, STe and Falcon. The original PC will probably be spared, as will Commodore C64, 128, Amiga,... Current PC hardware probably not.

Old cars can still be repaired and used for their original function. Also, their looks are still pleasing to some. Cars from before they added computers to them are also a lot easier to repair and for those enthousiasts a hobby to have fun with.

With electronics (all, not just computers) it's usually replaced when broken instead of repaired, so I guess most will be lost.

  • I can confirm, forgejo is a good, very lightweight git server you can run on an rpi with room to spare. I'm running with postgresql as backend on the same rpi, mariadb is an option as well.

When you don't want to selfhost, gitlab is independant and EU (NL?) based, bitbucket is from atlasian (US?) and is also an option.

  • I ould have been dead for more then half a century. I wouldn't have survived my 1st year.

  • Yep, dual sim is a thing. However, my employer wants full control of the phone so they provided an iPhone. (I'm an Android user) The biggest pro of 2 phones is that you can silence the work phone outside work hours.

With my 1st temp job ('99) I told my boss that the best feature on the work phone the power button was. The moment I left the building it would be turned off. Alas, those modern phones have a complete sequence to go trough to get them off, so I now use the automated do not desturb. Alas, iPhone has only times you can set daily, instead weekday dependent times. Between 18:00 and 7:00 the thing is quiet, no exceptions.

  • Same here, the manager hiring me left before my employment started. I was a contractor that joined, so I already knew most of the team. Alas, management destroyed the fun in the job. Way to much work, no new knowledged colleagues but we got a truckload of managers to work agile.

  • eXitter seems to be the correct name at the moment.

  • Yep, never came to updating the site, it's my email/network domain. Maybe Imshould change the 1 into a 2 ;)

  • No need to limit yourself to US tld's, country ones for funny domains can be stable as well. My domain koffie.nu (coffee.now in Dutch), registered in '98, is still going strong. I just hope the rising sealevel won't wipe away the country any time soon.

  • I get DNS errors on apkpure. I got the same on my own domains when bind changed how you need to setup dnssec, or finally depricated a very old method for DNSSEC. (I ssetup DNSSEC a long time ago) This invallidated my domains as they were unsigned. It looks like this. I need to check dns logs, but it looks the same as a dns outage.

  • I'm glad I never found that option. ;)
