  • Alas, greed is bred (past sence of breding) into the western societies and then 'exported' from Europe via the US as base for economics to all other areas of the globe. I get the feeling it was 'enhanced' by the middle-eastern trinity of religions, Jewism, Catholism and Muslism (correct spelling?) which places humans above anture instead of smack in the middle of it and totally depending on it.

  • I have Intel for my laptops and arm in the RPis. No AMD in use here. (My ancient AMD based servers refuse to boot)

I should have written Intel/AMD, 'the big, power hungry, stuff' or non-arm. ;) I don't want to waste memory for a desktop environment on the RPis when a simple, '90s window manager does the trick as well for the vnc server.

  • I get the feeling you're not happy with Gnome, but not unhappy enough to ditch it.

Open Source window managers and desktop environments enough to choose from, preferred ones here are ctwm for low resources environments (RPi) and xfce4 for intel based laptops. There are loads of other options, I'm sure, but no experience with those. (KDE and Gnome are the reason my wife and I use xfce4)

  • Then I'm curious in which EU country you're living. As far as I know, only EU/EEA and 3 EFTA countries have free roaming in EU. According to Wikipedia that is.

UK wanted out, completely out, so that what happened to UK provider, they are out and get charged. No wonder that customers now get charged as well. Nothing to do with Greed, just the result of leaving and the Anglo-Saxon economics, the user pays.

  • I switched from Firefox to Vivaldi last year and never regretted it. I like the ad blocking that it has as standard and the uBlock origin plugin makes it 99% perfect. It's pretty light weight and the tab stacks work good. No clue if those stacks are chromium or vivaldi, but they work.

  • The one where humans were smart enough not to destroy their own planet.

  • When you pay enough and have the right government, a society.

    • free tuition
    • free or at least affordable healthcare
    • social security
    • physical security
    • transportation

Without it, our country (the Netherlands) would be a lot smaller, as most of it would be below sea level. It still is, but the dykes, which are build and maintained via taxes, keep the sea at bay. No roads to travel on, no military to defend the country, no healthcare that is affordable for all and no food on the table for the unemployed.

When your taxes are spent well, it's a great return on investment. (My income for one ;) ) However, when the government is mostly corporate owned, the return is a lot less.

  • That didn't work... Next!

And when it's a real big mess: In 100 years, nobody will know or care.

  • I had them all, until the disk I had them on died... Will implement i2p tomorrow.

  • 'Why ad block detection is bad for youtube'. (Ad blocker was working fine, no ads seen ;) )

  • The cat:

  • Depends on you.

Do you care about what happens in Ukrain, Africa, Jemen and/or any of the other conflict areas or don't you care about any of them.

If you do care: Care about all of them, as innocent people get slaughtered because someone in power thinks that they can take whatever they want.

When you don't care, that's well, but don't come complaining when somebody thinks that what is yours is his and takes it from you.

Both parties in palestine are 'right' when they limit themselves to their view. However, it all started when the British gave the Jews land (a hhge part of Palestine) that wasn't theirs to give anx that's when all the mess started in 'modern history'. When you go back further it all boils down to the "you're not part of our group, so I may kill you" attitude that's pretty common between humans. (Alas) evolution didn't solve this. Biggest issue is still religion.

  • You mean, like xitter? Perfect example of what happens without some regulation.

  • Instead we now have 'warning, hot' on cups with coffe in them. (It should be hot when I order a hot drink)

That's the problem with trying to make it fool proof or add foll proof warnings, there will always eb a better fool. Educate the ones that want to be educated and let nature run it's course. Problems like thise solve themselves. (Although it could get messy)

  • Previous century I bought a TV that was 16:9 and had software to stretch 4:3 broadcasts to fit the screen. It chopped off a tad at the top and bottom and stretched the sides a tad to fill the screen... it was horrible. I'd rather have the dark borders at the sides over mutilated images. Somehow I doubt AI would be a bit more creative.

  • There was even a bananian, but that's dead. armbian lives as well.

  • I deny everything, and even that.

The general population wants 2.3 kids (we have none), at least 3 holidays a year, preferably by plane (last holiday here was 2016, by car, but within 100 km),... As long as the general po[ulation breeds like rabbits and keep on flying, for one, I give our species not to much chance to not go extinct.

  • I have data I don't want to miss on mirrored WD red drives. Oldest set is from '14, but are more in sleep mode then active. (Also 2TB drives, newest are 4 TB, I'm not even close to 20 TB)

  • swiping back from a post

TIL that this is possible. (Should really read/search for instructions)

BTW, smooth swiping here, Samsung Tab S2 8" running Lineage 18.1.
