  • I know. But this YouTube channel, Out of Spec, runs this exact same 70mph loop in every EV. A large number of them exceed their EPA rated range in this test. I mentioned the EV9 because it's similar to the Cybertruck in many ways (a brick...), and I had just watched that range test this week.

    Also worth noting the guy is a Tesla fanboy, so he's not going to deliberately make the CT look bad.

  • The gearing in the Taycan/E-Tron GT aren't for efficiency, but for speed. Electric motors don't really lose efficiency as they spin faster, but they do start to lose the ability to move the car faster against the exponentially increasing wind resistance. This isn't an issue for most cars (they top out around 110mph), but for something like the Taycan it's important (tops out around 155mph).

    The 70mph situation is more that manufacturers de-rate their cars. Both the Taycan and the Lyriq (a SUV brick) are well-known for demolishing their EPA ranges in 70mph cruising tests. Even the EV9 (the brickiest brick) exceeded the EPA range in this same test.

  • Because a lot of other EVs that he's run on the same test exceed the EPA numbers, some by a quite considerable margin. The Taycan for example is well-known for exceeding the EPA estimates by as much as 50%. He recently tested the EV9 (a brick) on the same test in similar temperatures, and it also exceeded the EPA numbers.

  • Another vote for DDG. I honestly didn't realize Google had gone to shit, because I haven't used them for anything in the last 5 years (which is wild for me to think about, because I used to be a huge Google fanboy in the G+/Hangouts/Google Now/Nexus era).

  • Yeah you can preview this cycle by looking at Cadillac. They were among the first to go touch-only with Cue in the early 2010s, started fading back in physical buttons with new models in the late 2010s, and on their newest models now have a full set of very nice custom buttons not shared from the GM parts bin.

  • Varies wildly from phone to phone. I prefer the in screen detectors, since they work great when your phone is on your desk or in a phone dock/charger. They need to be implemented well though.

    The one on my Huawei P30 was fantastic. The one on my Pixel 6 was ass, the one on my Pixel 8 is good.

    The one on the 6 was ass even without a screen protector, the one on the 8 is good even with one.

  • Just to note: US chains are significantly better outside the US. I don't eat at chains in the US anymore, they're expensive and I'm pretty sure my shit is more nutritious. Might taste better too.

  • No designers involved, unless you think Elon is a designer. The whole Tesla design studio revolted over having to work on it. They designed something else, which of course Elon refused. I wouldn't at all be surprised if it was engineered so the other option can be swapped in when this one flops.

  • With the new 500 estimated to start around $35k in the US, Fiat lost "cheap". Super uncompetitive at that price though, we'll see what happens.

    Can get a nearly new Polestar 2 for that. The $650/mo insurance bill killed that idea for me though.

  • My dad found a rural lot near here where a bunch of dealers are parking inventory so they can still make it look like a shortage. One dealer still has $5k markups last I checked, but also still have the car I looked at ~5 months ago.

  • I was going to say 2 liters is a lot... But then I converted into funny units and it's pretty close to what I drink on the average day (sometimes twice that, sometimes half).

    Maybe also contributing to my lack of kidney stones?
