Imho they were not in a state of peace anymore they were at war and the crackdown was completely justified and long overdue. However in the long run there will be some issues and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Hero become the villain.

I wouldn't count on a hidden arsenal imho after staying more than a year in Mainland China they have certain things that are quite impressive but a lot of it is built quickly En Masse. They struggle terribly with innovation but honestly that's just down to their education. However they are quite capable at copying a certain design and improving on it quickly that's basically the greatest Mainlander strength at this point.
but they already do for their buggy ass apps like armory crate. I think that they are afraid to commit ressources for an OS that is barely used on desktop.
if you are fed up with juggling between whatsapp and the likes you could use beeper I won't recommended using beeper with signal because that would defeat the purpose
