  • Affinity Photo is an excellent Photoshop alternative. I switched a while ago and have used it for all of my major projects since.

  • This is by design. Decades of eroding education and critical thinking have produced a populace that is highly ignorant and extremely easy to manipulate.

There is a reason why attacking education is the first thing any right-wing government does.

  • A very important thing to remember this election: The Conservatives had a 30-point lead and were set to gain over 200 seats in a sweeping majority victory and they blew it. They blew it and their leader lost his own seat. The fact we even have a Liberal minority at all is incredible.

So while the Conservative party still has a lot of seats, enough Canadians disliked PP and his campaign enough to erode a 30 point lead. PP says he is staying on as party leader but his party would be incredibly foolish to keep him. His campaign cost them a historical election victory and the dude can't even get elected in his own riding.

  • I hate cars as much as the next person here, but we know next to nothing about this person other than a single sentence statement from the police. And also charges haven't been laid yet because the investigation is still ongoing and likely hasn't been sent to the crown counsel yet.

  • Sounds like what happened in BC.

  • The monster that is Infinite Growth can't do that.

  • Firstly - They probably grew up or came into voting age under a Trudeau government. They don't know what it's like to live under an awful Conservative government. They also blame the federal government for things outside of its control.

Secondly - Younger people are superglued to social media which is a completely unchecked and unregulated IV-shot of manipulation and disinformation.

Thirdly - Political education is extremely poor. People simply do not understand how government works at any level and they don't care to know. BC's last provincial election saw a sizeable amount of people vote for the BCCons party because they wanted to get rid of Trudeau... in a provincial election. People blame governments for things they cannot control and demand governments to fix things that they cannot.

Fourthly - Right wing groups are intentionally targeting disenfranchised youth, particularly young men. To say we are going to deal with a new generation of ultra-toxic masculinity is an understatement, but that mentality usually leans right.

  • The Liberal government has now been around long enough that there is an entire generation that came into voting age under them. They don't know what it's like to live under Conservatives like Harper.

Just like the GOP voters in the US - Many just wanted a change to the status quo and were highly ignorant about what they were voting for and the damage that was coming. A growing demographic that votes GOP are young people that probably weren't even born back during the Bush eras and have no idea what a horror show they were.

  • I'm sure if you follow the paper trail enough it'll lead back to either Russia or the Heritage Foundation from the US.

It is yet another grifting disinformation factory.

  • That doesn't sound like government efficiency.

  • Coolio. More technofascist-controlled social media. Nothing could possibly go wrong here.

  • Firstly: Bragging about wanting to override the Charter of Rights is disgusting. That alone should end his career but I know it won't.

Secondly: Canada does not actually have that many mass-murderers and they are not what most people care about. It's the small time crime that Canadians are concerned about. Thefts, domestic violence, stranger attacks, auto crime, etc. Promising to go after a type of criminal that hardly even exists is an empty, nothingburger promise.

Thirdly: This just reeks of pandering to those that want to see our justice system function as a tool for revenge.

  • I enabled the setting to hide bots in my user config. They're annoying wastes of space on Reddit and the few I've seen here are the same.

  • Especially when he has basically admitted that it is stock market manipulation. Everyone knows the tariffs will return or potentially even something stupider.

  • I've also noticed a huge flood of clearly biased articles from Postmedia-owned news groups (Postmedia is American and owns several news agencies that masquerade as Canadian). Very clearly being spread by bots that have no post history other spamming of Postmedia sludge.

  • I imagine PP's tactic would be to align himself with Smith to give away Canada's resources and assets to the Americans while scorning our allies, trade partners, and citizens.

  • He isn't. He can't be; not the way he has handled them.

Bringing industry and manufacturing back to US soil is actually not a bad idea at all but it's a problem that needs to be tackled smartly and over a period of time so businesses can react. He is trying to force decades worth of economic migration in the span of a few months. For (hopefully) obvious reasons, that is impossible and the US economy is about to collapse.

And considering Trump, along with Musk at DOGE, have systematically destroyed economic and social safety-net programs... the aftermath of this is going to be catastrophic. The only way Trump is "right" about these tariffs is that they are an intentional sabotage of the US economy so him and his wealthy backers can cash out as the walls come crashing down. That is the goal and it's going according to plan.

  • Singh has to go if the NDP ever wants to have even a shred of hope of being competitive in the polls again.

I don't even think he's a bad politician per se, but it's obvious he is not resonating with Canadians and hasn't for years.

  • Pushing your middle finger tightly into your thumb to build up pressure. Vary the pressure slightly and your middle finger will slip off your thumb, and due to the pressure built up, quickly slam into the base of your thumb and produce a loud sound.

Once you're got the hang of that you can try it with other fingers. The ring finger works nicely as well.
