  • It says you can't gain weight. I'm already overweight, and about max for what I can be to keep my job (military) and not totally break down. So if "can't gain weight" means this is my max weight and no matter what I do I can't go past it, that makes a comfortable hard stop for future efforts toward dieting.

  • Also, not having information is not a plot hole. We don't know why they didn't, and it's safe to say that considering how intelligent Gandalf is, he would have thought of it, and found a reason it wasn't feasible (where sending the eagles after the Eye falls was the best choice).

We can speculate various reasons it might not work (The Eye would be able to spot them and archers shoot them down, The One Ring might be too tempting to the eagles, giant eagles lack the dexterity to keep track of a ring, or eagles are willing to make a contribution for a moment, but aren't willing to really bear the burden and seriously risk their lives), but it's completely irrelevant. We don't need to know why. Just because we weren't offered a reason, doesn't mean there wasn't one.

  • Wait... do holes that meet up with other holes count as separate holes? The nostrils meet up with the mouth hole but then combined they go through to the anus. Do those count as three distinct holes, since looking at each of them individually they would count as a hole? Or would there be one hole with... four openings?

ETA: I have more questions. Do all the openings need to be open to still be considered a hole? Is it only a hole if all my sphincters are open and my mouth is open? If I'm getting choked but my mouth is open and I'm trying to breathe, does my mouth to nostrils count as a hole themselves? Do my nostrils automatically count as a hole as long as one or both isn't stuffed up?

  • As a party, the Dems suck. Absolutely. And in the long-term, as an opposition party, they are not great.

That being said, are the non-voters and protest non-voters children? The nonsense I'm reading about non-voters not being "inspired" or not being "captured" by Democrats to convince them to vote against fascism sounds like a description of a salesman trying to sell products, not the either-or choice being given to every adult American, which is, as a citizen, their own goddamn responsibility to be party to.

A non-vote is still a vote. You don't absolve yourself of the outcome by choosing not to participate, because if you can vote, you're already participating.

There were three real options this past election: MAGA, Dems, and I-don't-care-they're-equally-bad. So yes, not voting when fascists win means you supported fascism.

Obviously that does not mean non-voters are solely to blame. Republicans accepted fascists, those that voted R chose fascists, Dems suck as a party, and non-voters sat back and allowed fascists to take power. On the list, non-voters are the least bad, certainly, but they still bear responsibility.

  • It doesn't look like this was an "attack on random civilians." Out of all the people they could have killed, they killed people who work for the Israeli Embassy. They worked for the government doing the genocide.

Now did they support it? Who knows, but this shooter was not shooting up a movie theater. It was no more random than the United Healthcare CEO.

  • That's a short conversation for me:

Anything medium/large-dog size and larger, no.

Below that it can certainly depend (like a venomous snake? We'll both lose. Eagle? Honestly no fucking clue. If I got a hit in, it would be done, but I'm not sure I'd get a strike in).

  • I feel like it can kind of be confusing to understand how the process works for it.

But it is not even remotely confusing as to what you do. Choose, from most to least, who you want. It's that simple. You want to get into how those votes are tallied, do a little dive, there's plenty of videos very simply explaining it. If you don't, and just want to be able to go vote? Just go vote. If even ranking them is too complicated because you have a worm in your brain, just choose one and ignore everything else.

It might be complicated to tally, but it is not complicated to do. It's just people being duped by the Big 2 parties to not want choices.

  • There was a STRONG effort to ban (or at least end) RCV here in Alaska, and it failed, but barely. They even did the super misleading wording, too, in order to make it unclear if the measure banned RCV or supported it.

I was always so confused by the adamant support that was being shown by general people, though. Like, I get why both Dems and Republicans would be against it: they want to be the only two players in the game. But why any general people would want less choice is beyond me. And it's funny, because the staunchest proponents (at least where I am) were conservatives, when (again, where I live) RCV basically drove out the Democrats. There were Progressives, there were "centrists," there were Libertarians, and then there was Republican/MAGA. Dems didn't even get enough support to be on the ballot. So their hated Libs were wiped off the board entirely for being so ill-liked, but they want to get rid of that system? I just don't get it.

  • Well, they sure proved the "you can't trust the government when it comes to vaccines" message they were trying to put out during the pandemic.

I guess that's kind of always been the Republican playbook: Complain about something in the government. If it's not true, wait until you're in power and make it true.

  • Jesus Christ what a depressing take.

I have two kids, and I had them so that I could raise good, caring people to continue society, and because I enjoy being able to nurture them to reach whatever goals they want.

I want my kids to rebel. I want my kids to think for themselves. I'm an atheist, and my kid wanted to learn about Christianity, so I took them to church. I don't need my kid to "follow in my footsteps," I want them to do whatever they find fulfilling.

The best part of parenting is not knowing what to expect and watching what they'll grow into. You're right, to a degree, about the slot machine, but you're wrong about there being no jackpot.

But if you get no enjoyment from that, by all means, don't have kids. In fact, if you're on the fence or unsure, don't have kids. The default should absolutely be no kids unless you're really sure that's what you want.

  • I feel like if he left Dr. Biden's name out of it and just quoted that and said something to the effect of "The most powerful politician in the United States has some of the best medical care available in the world. If this cancer is at this point, now, they must have known through his presidency. The American People deserve to know if their President is terminally ill!" it would have made some sense.

I mean, it would still be wrong, but it wouldn't be idiotically wrong.

  • I seriously did not realize Purolator was still around. My dad worked for them 40 odd years ago, and quit on the spot, with kids and a wife at home, because of how awful they were (called and checked with my mom first, who was supportive).

  • I mean, yeah, I can very competently clean out a shithouse as well as I can competently fix a helicopter. I probably won't be exceptional at either one (though I absolutely kill it on written tests, I guess).
