  • You've never heard a positive word about Mr. Beast / Jimmy? I have, quite a lot actually. Maybe you don't watch the people who interact with him more, idk. He seems like a nice guy who uses his videos to generate revenue that he immediately puts back into making more videos. Like, almost all of it if I understand correctly. All while helping tons of people in the process.

Also, Musk is desperate for Jimmy's attention lol. He asked Mr. Beast in a tweet recently why he doesn't upload his videos on X and basically got the answer "It's not worth it" lol

  • I get what you're saying, and yes, sponsored segments can be pretty annoying, even if it's up to the creator how annoying they are. Either way, I just run SponsorBlock, so I can skip those segments with one click.

  • I think the point they're trying to make is that you shouldn't support a company or product like this, period.

I also get your point though. I mean, I wouldn't have bought Skyrim if the modding community wasn't a thing lol.

  • Fuck off lol. I'm not sticking up for Google/Alphabet, they're an untrustworthy company and as someone working in tech, I hate the trend of layoffs currently going on, all to make shareholders happy.

I'm sticking up for people actually paying for the services they use. Streaming videos costs a shitton of money (servers, bandwith, platform maintenance, etc.) and Youtube has lost money for literal YEARS, which they are trying to fix. If Youtube went under for being too unprofitable, most creators on the platform would be out of a job. As long as there's no proper competing platform, Youtube is the best we have.

  • The best part is: Youtube doesn't even do any of that. It's the creators that try to keep other streams off the web, because they wanna drive traffic to their own channel.

Idk why, but it's just funny to me.

  • Yep, that might actually do it lol. Not even being sarcastic here 😅

But to be fair, I don't think most people are tech-literate enough to set up and use all of that properly. I think it would help if someone compiled a one-install package of all of that, but lots of people just don't like change.

  • You mean the browsers that Google is throttling Youtube on, if they're blocking ads? I use Firefox with SponsorBlock myself, but I'd say that most people are using either Chrome or Edge and would not switch to Firefox, despite of how much better it would be. Most people just like what they're used to.

  • Either watch ads or pay for Premium. Or don't watch Youtube. Those are the three choices most people will have. And it's Youtube's right as a private platform to give them those choices.

It's worth it for me because I watch a lot of Youtube. In return, I don't watch traditional TV, so I don't pay for cable or similar things.

  • True, in most countries the prison system is crap. I just don't like when people paint other people as monsters, no matter what they've done. Rehabilitation to me doesn't necessarily equal them being free ever again. Just means that they've changed as a person and truly regret their actions.

  • Before Caesar, Rome actually had checks and balances to keep one person from amassing too much influence. For example, they had two consuls, which was the highest political position at the time and acted like as the heads of state.

Until Caesar fucked up those systems by literally declaring himself "dictator for life". So really, it's not always been this way, it's usually just a few individuals that keep fucking it up for everyone else. Until they end up with a knife in their back.

  • I'm sorry, foundations in racism? Elitism I can see, sure. Like, doing the bidding of the upper class and stuff. And a few higher ups in the police force are really arrogant. But racism? I've genuinely never seen or heard of any cops being racist where I live. If anything, lots of cops here are kids of immigrants.

The actual system isn't the problem, it almost never is. If anything what's missing in some countries are checks and balances to keep people reigned in while they're in positions of power.
