The sanctions are working.

I've once worked an entire year with no breaks whatsoever during the 8 h shift. High speed, intense, no-errors-policy. After a year, it had taken a huge toll on my health.

I completely agree. Just look at the frontpage of Lemmy and the "big" social media instances, they are dominated by things we hate. Yet we are forced to endlessly discuss and react to the stream of BS instead of taking action.

Your suggestion has at least two severe issues:

• It doesn't scale. The people that can and want to "wait until they're ready" probably are doing that already. Meanwhile, the large, unwashed majority does whatever they feel like, and why would they want that to change?
• It takes away personal liberty and punishes people who "cannot control themselves," giving way to social authoritarianism. To me, that's the exact opposite of what any elected government should do: to make people's lives better.

I gotta disagree with you here. At least on the sub(s) that I still - on the occasion of big events - take a glance at. To me, Reddit comments are the epitome of staleness and predictability. Also, their user base seems like a bunch of 40-year-old dads that mentally peaked at 16, but keep getting more racist by the year.

Precisely this. From a philosophical-logical POV, it doesn't make sense. From the POV of establishing and maintaining power/ dominance/ oppression/ hegemony, however, it's the only thing that makes sense.
