Of course a nuclear reactor needs maintenance and thus also produces infrastructure waste. A lot more than a solar cell. But it dwarfs when you divide by watt-hours. Solar cells produce dozens of times more waste per watt-hour, and stuff that's worse to handle too. Nuclear plants are mostly concrete and steel. Solar panels are glass and rare elements that we can't recycle properly yet.

Like, you didn't really think I was just comparing plants to cells did you? The point is, if the whole world goes solar, how many times over can we replace all of it?

They mean cost, not consumer price.

Solar is not sustainable. Maybe one day but today's panels will all have to be replaced in a few decades. For now it's a way to bridge the needed to go fully nuclear.

It's a business. Hosting a service to keep connections up isn't free or trivial. It's cheap and easy to learn how to maintain though. Get jellyfin and a VPN and a tunnel.

Take a minute to learn the difference between mozilla.org and mozilla.com. They are very much separate, and the .com has never pretended to not be there for the money. It's explicitly why it exists, so that the org can keep doing its thing.

Afaik the problem is that the Democrats play nice and the Republicans take advantage of this, because why wouldn't they? Ofc each party is going to appoint a judge with alligned world views, but sitting judges don't need to show loyalty or do party politics whatsoever.

Electing judges will get them involved with party politics. They'll have to spend time campaigning, and there will be less experienced judges.

You need an editor for traditional transcription tools too :) and it's A LOT more work. They don't even do punctuation or names.

I use it for generating subtitles. It figures out context, it ignores stuttering, it does punctuation etc. It's really is just better. With clean audio it transcribes like a human does.

It does better than other techniques with dirty audio, but when it fails it fails weird, which is the big issue here.

Whisper really is a lot better when it works, and it's free. The problem is that it refuses to produce gibberish or give up when it doesn't work. You'll always need an editor.

The architecture changed, there is still progress to be made there. But LLMs will forever be stuck in 2021, all data afterwards is tainted. Not a lot has been added.

In fact, Whisper was developed to transcribe videos for more training data, because they ran out of text data. These bad transcriptions are in newer models.

It's actually extremely good at figuring out confusing text. It gets weird when the audio quality is bad.
