  • That's all well and good, but let's hope we see the fruits of this swing at the ballot box.

  • My future career as a welder. I'm currently in a paid apprenticeship and I'm stuck on the final qualification before graduation. Everything else was easy, but the copper-nickel to mild steel test keeps failing. I'm on my forth and final test attempt.

If I fail, there's a real possibility I'll be fired. It would be foolish of them to fire me as they've already invested a considerable amount of time, money, and training on me. But I don't know if they'll see reason, so I'm getting my resume ready for another job.

It shouldn't be hard to find another job, this current one has already given me four years of on-the-job apprentice training experience. I just don't want to leave this current job as I like it here.

  • Just Lemmy, Facebook, and YouTube if that counts. And my time on Facebook is slowly dwindling.

  • I was invited to go, but I'm rather busy with other things.

  • I guess it depends on what you intend to donwith the laptop as they're not all built the same.

  • "Don't protest our complicity in genocide or else you'll lose democracy and freedom."

  • You can't unify with people who want to kill you.

  • CNN — A Virginia man has been charged with making death threats against Vice President Kamala Harris and appeared in federal court on Monday.

According to court records, Frank Lucio Carillo made several threats against Harris, President Joe Biden, FBI Director Christopher Wray, several Arizona officials, and others on the right-wing social media platform Gettr.

In response to a subpoena, the FBI found 4,359 posts from Carillo “targeting various public officials,” including Harris.

In several posts, Carillo allegedly threatened to cut out Harris’ eyes and described various ways he wanted to kill the vice president, court records say.

“I will cut your eyes out,” Carillo allegedly wrote in one expletive-laden rant where he called Harris a “b*tch” and said he hoped she would “suffer a slow agonizing death.”

A number of similar posts are cited in court records, with graphic and detailed threats against the vice president as well as others, including one Islamophobic post in 2023 when he wrote that people should “go out with your guns and kill all Muslims.”

When FBI agents first arrived at Carillo’s house over the social media posts, Carillo asked if they were there “about the online stuff,” and said, “I posted it.” Carrillo, appearing to talk to himself, also said, “I guess I’m gonna need a lawyer,” according to court documents.

Federal agents retrieved two firearms from his home, including a pistol he bought in 2023 and a rifle purchased this year.

A hearing to determine whether Carillo will remain behind bars while awaiting a resolution in his case has been set for Thursday.

CNN is reaching out to an attorney for Carillo for comment.

  • The problem with "conservatives" is that they don't really stand for anything. So they have to go into politics and culture war nonsense.

You're not really going to find anything that's conservative yet isn't political because modern conservatism is fundamentally hollow by design.

  • It depends on what I'm shopping for and what I intend to do with it. For clothing, since I work long hours as a welder, I buy cheap 100% cotton long sleeve shirts at thrift stores. They're all going to get burned up over time, so their design, color, and/or logo doesn't matter in the slightest. Cheap and disposable is the goal there.

Sometimes I'll shop at thrift stores for specific types of electronics or metals not for what their intended function is, but rather for what I can turn it into or use it for. I once bought a thin wall steel pot, cut it up, flattened it out, and I now cut pieces off to fix other things.

The last thing I fixed with it was a gash in a dryer drum. I cut the damaged section of the drum out, drew an outline on the flattened steel pot, cut it out, rolled it a little, and TIG welded it into the missing section of the drum.

  • May all your condiment packets fail to tear open neatly.

May your internet connection be inconsistent and plagued by outages.

May all your farts be wet and untrustworthy.

  • The delistings might not have anything to do with The Rock, but rather geopolitics and the US involvement in sketchy conflicts.

The Realms of the Unreal. It's a documentary about a hermit named Henry Darger who created his own little world while living alone all his life. The guy could read and write, but lacked an education on just about everything else.

I just find it neat that this entire world he created could have been easily thrown away, never to be discovered if his landlord wasn't curious. The guy had some serious mental issues, but it's still fascinating.

  • Enlisting in the military.

I was an insufferable piece of shit back in the day, constantly self sabotaging and blaming everyone else for the problems I caused. I was on the verge of homelessness due to my own stubbornness and bad attitude.

The military gave me the swift kick in the ass that I desperately needed. Now I can self reflect and recognize when the problem is me, and I can admit when I'm wrong and course correct.

Military isn't for everyone, but for me it was exactly what I needed. I learned a ton of life skills and healthy coping mechanisms that my parents never taught me.
