  • openstreetmaps ftw. Get that, turn on cartographic overlays (outdated scans but still useful), aerial imagery, download and import nhd data, pull up ngs website, and enjoy. Help us map rivers! Even better if you can do an actual ground survey w/ gps.

  • To put it in perspective... I inherited my mom's house, retirement, life savings, car, etc. And I am still very limited in buying a new home where I actually want to live, bc of how outrageous prices are. Just imagine... almost 70 years of her life, and I can't do what my dad and his first wife easily did at age 20 working as a restaurant manager. Insane.

  • in my city, there are numerous "food deserts" where fresh food generally isn't available, and people go to pricey convenience stores which sell, guess what, premade food, junk. When you are raised that way, and everyone around you does the same, it comes naturally. And who is educating them otherwise, or making useful changes?

My mom grew up not knowing how to cook, bc they almost never had real food in their house (actually the "projects", single mom with schizoaffective disorder, four kids). She was working at like 12, 13, and if she were still alive, I'd love for you to try telling her they were lazy lmao

  • One solution would be a password mode where the keys randomly rearrange, so you are using different physical keys each time. Kinda like you can do with passcodes on Android. Ofc this implies some way of dynamically displaying the keys, but that would be cool in itself.

Or what about playing sounds that block out the clicking.

  • When I was a teenager, I went through this brief phase where instead of saying "dad", I used his first name. Not intentionally, it was just wires getting crossed in my brain, but he would get so pissed about it.

Don't recall ever calling my mom by her first name. She wouldn't appreciate that either... in fact, it bothered her that I said "mother" instead of "mom" for the longest time (we had a strained relationship, so the more formal term felt more appropriate).

On the other hand, my parents never required me to say "sir" or "ma'm".

  • Is Putin really a winner tho? They almost had a coup. I mean if the war was going amazingly well, but their economy is shit, they're isolated, and they are in stale mate with an enemy they should dominate...
