  • My mom taught me to always wash dishes by hand. She hated dishwashers, because they would leave spots, and that wasn't acceptable. For the longest tine, every dish I washed had to pass her inspection. If they looked anything less than perfect, she would point it out and/or rewash then herself. Eventually she trusted me enough to not double-check, and honestly my eyesight was better anyway.

I have to this day never used a dishwasher.

  • No lectures before the third date, everyone knows that. Huge red flag.

Did anyone else not know it's pronounced see-la-kanth? I've been saying it wrong in my head all these years omg.

  • Rural America is mostly a wasteland. It's either where people of means deliberately choose to live away from society, or it's people who are too ignorant, poor and/or drug-addled to have much choice. Neither group is going to be left-leaning... and that's why when you look at electoral maps, you see all that red.

Pick a highway, any will do, travel along it and tell me what you see. I already know. One little failed town after another. They might have a dive bar or ancient gas station, but most commercial buildings will be long abandoned. If you need anything, you'll have to find a decent city with a generic walmart, dollar general, mcdonalds, etc. Long gone are the mom-and-pop grocers, general stores, etc.

The irony is these are solid red Republican districts. Cities have major problems too, but they are full of action; plans, projects, hopes of a better future. There is no future for the average rural American.

They are frustrated and angry, as well they should be. Too bad they can't see the forest through the trees.

  • I feel ya.

I'm lying here alone right now, in my noisy hovel of an apartment, scared shitless, trying to block out the sound and light, to sleep as wave after wave of sorrow washes over me. The pills really aren't working so well lately. Hooray for "the weekend."

For the first time in my life I'm considering substance abuse. The world mostly just disgusts me right now.

  • Well the police can declare an unlawful assembly at any time for any reason, which tends to stir up even peaceful crowds. Not to mention being face to face with militarized thugs in riot gear, drones, helicopters, armored vehicles, mounted police, tear gas and "non-lethal" rounds. If I had a gas cannister lobbed at me, why wouldn't I toss it right back. Fuck em. ACAB.

You might have no intention of causing trouble, but still get rounded up. Happened almost every day in my city for several months during BLM protests. Mass arrests of people in the wrong place at the wrong time. The countless live streamed videos don't lie, each protest was non-violent until police agitated the crowd.

I don't go looking for trouble but I have my limits just like anyone else.

  • Trust me, you don't want Indiana. You really don't.

If it comes down to it, carve out the lakeside and discard the rest. Keep the dunes and miss the crazy racist Christo-fascists...

  • I think it's hilarious that people are still using DOS in 2024!

Sim City 2k was the first time I used Windows 95. One of the teachers in my sixth grade class had it on their computer, and they let us take turns playing it. It seemed really amazing to those of us who grew up with more primitive computers, like Apple IIs, even Macs, various x86 clones running DOS, or occasionally Windows 3.1.

My first PC in 1998 even had Sim City 2k "Network Edition" pre-installed. Played the shit outta that game!

  • Well this is where it's headed. First it will be teachers, parents, doctors, therapists.

Then they'll want to register trans adults as sex offenders. Then all LGBTQ people.

Like so much of the government in the US, the infrastructure is there, ready to be abused. Change one line and it applies to all of us.

Anyone not realize just how awful it would be to get labeled a sex offender? It makes it almost impossible to find a place to live, or a job. People will seek you out and harass you in public. This is an extremely serious classification that shouldn't have anything to do with "culture wars". It should be reserved only for the worst classes of convicted criminals -- if it's not actually cruel and unusual and unnecessarily punative.

  • Depressing.

It occurred to me last week, humanity has always feared nuclear weapons. People warned of the extinction of humanity should they see widespread use. But all this time we've been happily consuming and discarding something more subtle, but poisonous to life. And it's literally everywhere.

  • All that shit is so real and it hurts so FUCKING bad. I hate being othered. I hate being the lone exception to inclusivity, diversity and tolerance. I have never once harmed so much as a hair on a woman's (or man's) head. But I'm dangerous and not trustworthy?! Fuck that noise.

Also the sex part is basically my partner and I:
