  • Looking at the voting results for younger generations, this isn't even close to this simple. Yes, there is a slight shift towards more environmental policies/parties, but it is far from a majority even in the youngest age bracket that is allowed to vote (looking at voting results from the last general election in Germany).

  • And it had completely different innards and battery capacities. Just grabbing that old battery and putting it in a new phone would seriously limit the runtime on a single charge. Which is kinda the point, I really hope we don't trade replaceable batteries for the need to recharge twice a day or switch batteries to even make it the whole day. Or have a noticeable bulkier phone that won't fit as comfortably in my pocket. Or that it may not survive the rain shower I got surprised by because they skimped on the water proofing.

  • Uh, leds for a long time only were available in green and red. The invention of the blue led came rather late, leading to the explosion of led use because now you could finally show all the colors in a display (and create white light).

  • I don’t know the current state, my Galaxy S4 mini was shipped with android 4.3 and it never even got 5 from Samsung. Custom rims delivered but 6 wasn’t available at all (plus the hardware struggled at that point).

  • I really wonder how common that is. I how do you use your phone to get battery issues that quickly. Or what type of phone has those issues. To me this seems like a rare occurrence, an exception not the norm.

  • Every phone is a compromise, size, weight, how much space you use for battery, how much for ports, how much for easy accessibility. As I understand it, I won’t be able to get one that sacrifices easy accessibility for the other stuff. I just hope the compromises won’t be too bad.

  • Not sure how long I had the S4, a few years I guess. Started with android 4.3 and dropped it some time after 6 was current (which I couldn’t get). My Fairphone 2 broke, not that long for that one. The iPhone 6s lasted about 5 years, my 12 is still going strong.

  • Every phone with removable I had had a pretty flimsy back cover that started to crack during the lifetime of the phone. The gaskets started to go or weren’t even there in the first place, so they weren’t even splash proof (so better avoid getting rained on or even get sweaty).

And none of my phones ever required a battery replacement during its life time. My Galaxy S4 mini ram out of support, I flashed it with a custom rom then that stopped being supported (and the hardware really couldn’t deal with later android version). My Fairphone 2 started crashing regularly which ended its life. And my iPhone 6s had a solid 5 year life with no battery issues before I retired it to get a better camera.

So for me requiring every phone to have an easily replaceable battery has pretty much zero upsides but a bunch of potential downsides.
