  • It is quite normal for any business to lose customers after everyone try’s it out. This is being framed negatively, but having 50m users after only a few weeks is amazing. And I say this as someone that refuses to use FB.

  • Perhaps. But only the last 2-4 years. No student below high school should have homework (there is research to back this up). And they can do it in study hall, not necessarily at home. College courses have like half the class time, so professors hit the hard parts and expect students to read and get the rest on their own.

  • Car dealers are owned by wealthy owners. They have lobbied hard (i.e. $$$) to block other business models via state regulation capture.

Note that most of these laws exist in so called “pro business” red states. Allowing competition and newer, more efficient, business models to replace older business models is a basic tenant of capitalism.

  • It is a US company, that likely helps a little. They are expensive. In many countries 55% could not afford them. Easy access to Apple stores to fix issues is a massive advantage.

Anecdotally, my friends and family that have switched have done so because of malware. Apple is far from perfect, but Google has done a terrible job of keeping bad apps out of the Play store. And malicious software has other ways of getting installed. My sister was a diehard Samsung user, but reluctantly bought an iPhone when she started getting porn pop ups and her and none of her friends could figure out how to stop them.
