  • Whomever takes a picture owns the copyright. If you hand your camera to a stranger to take a family photo, legally that stranger owns the copyright on your family photo. In this case the county or county employee owns the copyright. And they should be suing anyone profiting from its use.

Edit: consent is irrelevant. That is a totally separate privacy issue.

  • BYD is closing in on Tesla in globsl EV sales. And most people in US and Europe have never heard of them.

The car in the US site at least looks great in pictures and is substantially cheaper than a Tesla. BYD US site on a side note, the US flags all over the US site are interesting.

Here is what they sell in China: All BYD models

  • People in each country used whatever everyone else is using. In the US that became text/iMessage. This was partially driven by the way cell companies charged in the US with free texts but limits on data (iMessage uses data, but it came later).

In other countries the better at the time options won out. We talk to our friends in Europe and Africa with WhatsApp.

  • I have been on several as a tourist. We turned the wrong way and ended up on base visiting a museum and lighthouse in Pensacola FL. Our cruise ship docked at a base in Key West FL. They told us not to take pictures as they bussed us across. A highway goes through the national laboratory in Los Alamos NM. Again, the guards tell you to drive straight through without taking pictures.

But how would they know? What could you actually see that doesn’t show up on Google maps? And what if you drive a car with cameras like Tesla?

Edit: Not Chinese, and have never taken pictures in these cases. I learned a long time ago that there are amazing pictures of everywhere on Google. The only ones that matter have my family in them.

  • Did you consider the forgiveness at the end into you calculations?

I have a family member that is a teacher. She said that is what happened to her. There is a 10 year program but it is income based. For most the payments were higher and loans paid off in 10 years. So she did not sign up. But Biden loosened the rules on what counts so she was able to get hers relieved after 10 years.
