  • It's genuinely not. App Store review is fully automated and chock full of holes. Anyone telling you there is less malware per capita on the App Store than the Play Store is either a decade behind on their talking points or lying to you. I use Apple for mobile and tablet needs because they offer good hardware with a seamless platform experience, not because installing random garbage on their storefronts is safer -- it's not.

EDIT: I should add the only storefront I have complete faith in is F-Droid.

  • Former attorney who now consults for corporate compliance departments/programs. I have zero formal training or professional practical experience, but tech has always been my strongest hobby. I decided to self host as much as possible almost 20 years ago starting with media libraries and email; it stemmed from a deep distrust of the tech industry.

  • I have been extremely happy with Unraid. It is by far the most beginner-friendly option and there isn’t an easier solution when it comes to expanding capacity. I run my nzb client and all of my *arr containers on it. My media server is on a used SFF PC I grabbed for cheap — so QuickSync can run on the bare metal. It’s been a great stack for years.

  • This is a horrible take. Bash lobbed this question in as a total softball. Dana is an excellent interviewer and she deliberately framed the question this way so as to allow Harris to be free to frame it with her response; instead of trapping Harris with a strongly premised question.

  • I use a single profile per server, but I only have added those with low latency and a few others with desirable geographic locations. The bulk of servers offer neither, so I don’t bother including them. Do you know what the total number of unique servers you’ve used over say the past 30 days is? You may need fewer profiles than you think.

  • Basicallly, yeah. It's unfortunate, but there are really only 2 engines left -- Blink and Gecko -- (WebKit exists, but it's almost exclusively used on Apple hardware. The days are gone when everyone had an engine and you could bounce around easily. I'm personally on Firefox main, but I keep Floorp around for backup.
