  • Yeah, so Israel's done some really fucked up shit, clearly, but when I see polls like this that indicate significant Palestinian support for Hamas, my sympathy for them dips substantially. If you're going to back a terrorist group, I don't much care if you get bombed along with them.

  • That’s a good question, but I don’t really know the answer. Someone else ITT mentioned the possibility of civil action against the people/institutions that should have acted. I don’t know if any other legal action is possible.

  • Mendiver is now scheduled to be sentenced on April 1, 2024 and, if convicted, he faces a maximum statutory penalty of five years in prison and a $250,00 fine for each count.

Okay, so we're going to bankrupt him, but only send him away for five years for making bombs and sending them to people in a clear attempt to murder them??? I don't get it. Fuck the fines, this guy should be locked away for life without the possibility of parole. WTF?

  • I fucking hope they did. I haven’t lived in Chicago for years, but I balked when I read about that. What a fucking disgrace. This is why I never liked Lori Lightfoot. I don’t know how you can be a Black politician in Chicago and go light on the CPD over a fucking secret prison. Total garbage.

  • Here's a decent article that goes into why Card's guns weren't taken from him after it became clear to many people that he was psychiatrically unstable and dangerous. Long story short: the laws were in place, but people didn't act on them.

  • Can't speak for the voting populace. Chicago politics are a freakin' travesty and have been for as long as I've been alive. It's a Blue city and pretty decent on many other political issues, but the PD is ridiculously corrupt and racist, and they've had their fingers on political levers for ages.

  • You apparently don't know much about Chicago Democrats. They're buddy-buddy with the CPD. The article even mentions that soon-to-be Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot let this guy off the hook in a disciplinary case in a former position she held. This guy will do just fine if he wins the election. Hopefully, reporting on him and his crimes will prevent that, but he won't be stopped by Chicago Dems.

I'm from Chicago. It's a great city in many respects, but its quite racist and the CPD is notoriously so. One of the worst police forces in any major U.S. city.

  • The niece is really good about finding ways to entertain herself and the nephew will always try and take it for himself and intrude, usually not in a compromising sort of way. Obviously, this is pretty typical kid behavior overall.

I think this is your core problem, really. Who is policing your younger nephew's behavior in this regard? Even at that age, being able to accept limits without losing your temper is important. Maybe offering him an alternative activity as a distraction would help? Younger siblings often want to be involved in whatever their older sibling is doing, so there's an element of normalcy to your nephew's behavior certainly, but it's also not acceptable and that needs to be communicated clearly to him. He needs to have ways to entertain himself when his big sister isn't available or at the very least learn to not take over any activity she engages in.

  • Counselors' first amendment rights aren't being affected; they can say anything they want. They're just not allowed to treat minors with treatment methods that have been proven to be ineffective at best and harmful at worst. Your first amendment rights don't apply to treatment periods; there are plenty of restrictions on your speech in a professional setting like that, and you should lose your license if you violate those rules. Those aren't state laws though, just silly old APA standards.

  • Time for nationwide strike in the restaurant/food delivery industry imo.

That will never happen, because the truth is that these folks do make more from tips than they would from any sort of overall wage increase. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, tip-receiving workers tend to favor the tipping system in my experience.
