  • They definitely, in the past, were better at hiding their true goals and were more willing to come up with compromises to move forward. Now, though, they act as though their policies are the only ones that can be implemented and if there's a Democratic majority then the majority needs to bow to whatever the conservative minority wants. But, interestingly, if they have the majority, then they have a "mandate" to do whatever they want without listening to the Democratic minority. Nice double standard, huh?

  • According to the article, racism is a systemic problem in this school. One of the school officials, yelled at some black kids because they were walking down the hall together and thus "were looking intimidating."

When the administration is racist, they're willing to overlook students being racist.

  • Very rarely, Trump is right accidentally. For example, recently he said that the true threat to America is coming from within. He meant the left, but he was accidentally right. The real threat is coming from within the US. To see it, though, Trump just needs to look in a mirror or look at the people attending his rallies.

  • "Preserve, protect, and defend, but not support. Checkmate liberals!!!"

  • It says the right to "bear arms." So if I want to graft a pair of cybernetically enhanced black bear arms to my body, I should have the right to do so! (As part of a well organized Bear Arm Militia, of course.)

  • Also because schools like to claim that they are bully free. Actually addressing bullying problems is hard, but sweeping incidents under the rug is extremely easy.

When my oldest son was in the third grade, a kid jumped in front of him in line (ironically going to an anti-bullying assembly). My son put his hands up to his face since the kid was so close to him. The kid then kicked my son in the side so hard that he left a shoe print on my son's side.

The next day I had a meeting with the teacher, assistant teacher, and the principal about the incident. First, they told me that nobody saw what happened. Then, they told me that my son started it by putting his hands up to protect his face. Finally, the principal told me that my son "isn't the type of kid to be bullied."

At that point, I knew I wouldn't get anywhere with them. They were trying to sweep the whole thing under the rug so they wouldn't need to deal with it. I left the meeting and my wife and I pulled our child from that school. We contacted the superintendent and raised a fuss until they agreed to put our son in another school. (He did a lot better there and now is thriving in college.)

  • Then again, annoying the judge can lead to other "complications" during the trial.

  • I agree. Had you asked me years ago (before Trump), I would likely have argued that the Republican party could still ditch their extremist elements and return to being a sane party. (Conservative, but still sane.)

I'm not sure if I was naive or if they've gotten worse, but I definitely wouldn't say this about them now.

  • I think Tuberville is trying to keep all these positions open so Trump can appoint loyalists to them should he take office in January 2025. This way, Trump can better guarantee that the military will do what he wants it to do instead of having pesky "morals" ingrained by people who know what they are doing.

  • His followers see him saying "I'm going to use the US military against Americans" and they say "he's going to use it on OTHER Americans, not me, so it'll be fine." Then, when it's used on them, they'll act surprised.

It's like the story of the woman whose husband was an illegal immigrant. She voted for Trump and then was shocked that he'd deport her husband.

  • She forgot step 2a) Have some political action committees purchase thousands of copies of your book to make it appear on bestseller lists despite few actual humans buying copies.

  • Step 1) Pay someone to write a book for you. Give them general notes about what you want in it, but they can come up with the details.

Step 2) Sell the book and (theoretically) get profits.

Optional Step 3) Pay your ghost writer. Hey, if you're following the Trump model, paying people for the work they do for you is optional.

  • Back when he bragged about his cognitive exam perfect score, he claimed that he aced even the very tough last question. So I looked up the test he took. The last question asked what the current day was. Apparently, he found this challenging but finally was able to give the correct answer when lesser men would have failed.

I'd slap my forehead, but if I did this every time Trump or the Republicans did something stupid, I wouldn't know what day it was!

  • Yeah, the only person Trump would take a bullet for would be his own reflection in a mirror and even then I'm not convinced. (This is, of course, assuming that Trump was temporarily granted the physical ability to jump in front of a bullet.)

He's told his followers that he's being indicted to protect them and they've bought it hook, line, and sinker. They really think that, without Trump, the Democrats would arrest all of them for possessing classified documents, financial fraud, trying to overturn an election, and trying to incite an insurrection.

Meanwhile, in the real world, the only reason they would be indicted for any of these things would be if there was evidence that they did any of this. For some, there is (e.g. the January 6th Insurrectionists), but for your average MAGA Republican? Nobody is going to file charges against them.

But still, they are convinced that Trump is protecting them somehow.

  • "Just because I asked if anyone would 'rid me of this messlesome priest ' doesn't mean I was calling for that priest to be killed. I can't be held responsible for people who commit acts of violence after I call for acts of violence. FIRST AMENDMENT!"

  • For two reasons:

    1. It lets them pretend that they are morally superior/not racist and the left is racist. "The left wants to kill unborn black babies and we're trying to save them."
    2. They tend to not hate racial minorities - as long as they "stay in their place." In the case of black people, they want black people to have no say in government and just do whatever their white masters employers tell them to do for whatever pay their white employers decide to give them. More black babies means more workers in their minds.

The same is true of other people. Women are okay if they "stay barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen." LGBTQ people are okay if "they stay hidden in the closet and never mention who they really are." Other religions are fine as long as they pretend that they are Christian.

Basically, they want things to go back to the "good old days" when white, straight, Christian men ran things and everyone else bowed to them.

  • Reminder that Trump once said: "I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida … to go to court would have taken a long time. Take the guns first, go through due process second."

For all his talk about being pro-Second Amendment, Trump would be willing to limit people's Second Amendment rights (and other rights) if it helped him in any way.

  • Even worse are the people saying they won't vote for Biden in 2024 because they don't agree with him 100% on certain issues when Trump would be even worse on those issues.

I understand not liking a politician completely. Hillary wasn't my first pick in 2016 and Biden wasn't my first pick in 2020. However, when it became clear that they were the nominee, I backed them over Trump. I'm sure some of these people will back Biden if/when he's the nominee, but a lot of them are declaring that they will sit out the elections if Biden is the nominee because they want things done differently. Meanwhile, if Trump is elected - say, because some left wing voters stay home - these issues will be treated a whole lot worse!

  • On the flip side, I wonder if they've told him stuff, but kept actual physical proof away from him. Santos is a known liar so any claim he makes would be tainted with the doubt of "is this another Santos lie."

They could hide what they are doing in plain sight with people shaking their heads over "yet another Santos lie."

  • I went on a cruise before COVID. The cruise line stressed washing hands to the point that it became annoying. (They have a "washy washy happy happy" song that they sing.) They had good reason to even before COVID as norovirus spreads like wildfire on cruise ships.

Overall, my cruise was a fun experience, but I don't think I'd do it again - even setting COVID concerns aside. I'd rather go to some destination and walk around seeing the sights than be trapped on a giant boat with all those people.
