  • Close, the maximum binding energy per atomic mass unit is iron-56, but splitting heavier atoms does not guarrentee releasing energy. If you consider the graph of specific bonding energy against atomic mass, then also consider that you need two numbers that add up to the original mass, it is clear that you need approximately more than 100u to release energy on fission.

  • I've found that they commonly mislabel apps as FLOSS when they are actually proprietary. That being said, I only ever used it for more niche programs, so maybe common programs are more accurate.

  • OpenFOAM. I needed powerful software to do CFD that was free, as in free beer, and found OpenFOAM. To run it on windows, the installation instructions first step was install linux on a vm then follow the linux installation instructions. I did that and started using the vm for other stuff until I found myself using the vm for most tasks, but kept using windows for gaming. To learn more, I got myself a pinebook, which replaced most of the usage of my vm. When windows decided to self destruct, I had learnt enough to install and configure arch with minimal help. Now, nothing can persuade me to go back.

  • Here are my two cents as an outsider looking in. I spend ~15-30 mins a day on Lemmy (usually while doing other things), so I see a decent amount of content but I am not at the leading edge of posts. When I look at posts, I rarely, if ever see spam. For the most part there is civil conversations and those that attempt to derail them are downvoted and, in some cases, banned.

Does this mean that moderation isn't a problem? No, I am but one user. However, it does indicate it is not a chronic issue. Personally I would like to see you guys refederate, as that could only increase the quality of discussions throughout the fediverse.
