Where else on the web does everyone hang out?

  • I wouldn't say I hang out there a ton. But most of my servers are actual personal ones. RL friend groups, my fantasy football league, that sort of thing. Only really active in one big public server and that one I just check in on now and again.

  • Discord shines when you use it with a tight-knit group. A RL friend group, a gaming clan, etc.

    But there are a ton of these big public servers that are essentially just spam, because that's what happens when you collect a load of random people in one place who have one minor interest in common at best, and then try and get them to hang out socially.

    It's a group chat app, not a forum. And being thrown into a group chat with 100 strangers is kind of the worst.

  • I have almost supernaturally good luck when it comes to getting tickets for things, but in no other area of life. This probably isn't the kind of thing you meant, and yet everything spooky I've eventually found a mundane explanation for. The ticket thing on the other hand? No idea.

  • It would probably help if their full time job was already secret agent.

    I always find the bit that takes me out of those characters is that they seem to speak, like, every language. I know polyglots exist, but the time it would take on top of the time all their other skills would take? Not only to learn, but to maintain fluency? There's literally not enough hours in the day.

    I'm legally obliged to shill the various crafting communities, my two most used are !knitting@lemmy.world and !lemmy_stitch@sh.itjust.works but you can find lots more in the sticky thread in either of those.

    Then there's also !imadethis@lemm.ee which has been a bit quiet lately so if you've made something, go show it off!

    Also been taking quite the interest in my knitting (as well as favourite pastime, leaving soggy bits of carrot all over the floor)

  • Not quite the same sort of thing, but I have an annoying tendency to forget I'm wearing glasses and headbang them off. Had to start wearing contacts instead.

  • Admittedly I only got into them because of Eurovision, but man I have been listening to so much Lord of the Lost. Somehow hadn't thought to look at any of their videos though! This was...eye opening 😆

  • Whining and whinging are definitely not the same thing, but I'm struggling to articulate why. Just something British (and I guess Australian, judging by this thread) folks grow up with and intuitively understand.
