Opinion: actors are not unique in deserving residuals. Everyone else should be getting them too: writers, directors, makeup artists, camera operators, grip - basically everyone who appears in the credits. Maybe call the relative share of residuals "shares", and advertise shares in job postings: "$20 + 20 shares per hour". Then you get hours*20/(total shares for everyone) of profits from then on.

For an extra laugh, report it to the police and refuse to leave until they let you file a blackmail complaint. Make sure the complaint mentions that the criminal has videos "where you reach orgasms while passionately masturbating". If the police are not amused they might confiscate your laptop "for evidence" though, so bring a disposable one.

Absolutely incorrect. You are thinking of Canada or UK. In US, drawings are fine. Rather it is photorealistic depictions "indistinguishable from that of a minor" that are prohibited, almost presciently pre-empting techniques like deepfake and stablediffusion by 20 years, a rare win by legislators.

The cute thing about quantum entanglement is that it provably CANNOT create a clone of you. It is conveniently called no-cloning theorem. It can either move your exact quantum state from a collection of particles in one place onto a collection in another, or it can create imperfect clones of you, but in no situation can it create an exact quantum clone of you in addition to the original.

The authors say they have a video of it levitating. This is way beyond error territory. This is either a deliberate hoax or a real discovery. The authors realize the significance of what they have. When you commit academic fraud, you go for something boring, or at least something difficult verify, like Hwang Woo-suk or Elizabeth Holmes, not simple and easily reproducible and altering the course of history.

Being published in a journal isn't what makes something true. That's just the scientific concensus process, but true facts have been true for all time. I can totally imagine someone who has made a discovery of this magnitude simply dumping it on arxiv for everyone to see. If it's true, we'll see levitation videos all over the world tomorrow. Even if you try to keep it secret or patent it, it's impossible for something this simple yet important. More noble to release it for the benefit of mankind. If it's a hoax, we'll know - not next year but next week - and their careers will be ruined.

Btw, old reddit used to display the exact upvote/downvote counts ("x upvoted, y downvoted") for posts AND comments in the "title" attribute of the total number, visible as a tooltip when hovering the mouse over it. All that "x% upvoted it" for posts and removing the counts entirely for comments was nonsense pushed through by the previous reddit jerk CEO on 2014-06-18 against all community opposition (what is it with reddit and dumping unpopular changes in June?).

If you gonna recreate old reddit, please do not include these later CEO meddlings in it! One of the best features of lemmy is the display of exact counts (which was also a major advertised draw of voatcom and raddleme before it). Let's keep that in!
