  • Also I live with one of those bootlickers and all their opinions are exactly as myopic, contrarian and self-aggrandizing as you would think

"I delivered a cost reduction of 21 cents per man hour to the shareholders, so my bonus is going up this year" type of thing?

  • NASA is a key pole in the US Military-Industrial Complex and should be opposed in all things. China should no more cooperate with NASA than with Raytheon or BAE or any other Westoid weapons manufacturer.

Personally, I wish nothing except aborted launches and mid-air explosions for NASA. What little practical space knowledge we gain from it's successes are far outweighed by the fact that it furnishes the Empire with space capabilities.

  • I think this is common to most languages: English speakers lecturing native speakers about how they're grammatically incorrect based on some rule printed in an entry-level language textbook.

I once saw a white dude confidently assert to a Japanese person that 全然 could not be used in the positive and only in the negative. Dude wouldn't even back down after the Japanese speaker got out their phone and showed him a famous 12th century (or something) poem that used 全然 in the affirmative. That's like trying to correct someone's grammar and then getting shut down by Shakespeare.

  • While there are people who are too trigger happy with the term, and a sizable gray area between cultural exchange and cultural appropriation, I do think there are cases where people cross over into objectionable cultural appropriation.

A really good example was when white American college students wore fake native American headwear with significant cultural and spiritual importance as decoration for drunken parties. I can definitely sympathize with native Americans not wanting their culture treated with disrespect.

  • In North Korea, academics are prevented from publishing their work if their conclusions are politically unpopular. Some people even threaten to kill scholars and journal publishers if they publish papers which embarrass the ruling party.

  • On the other hand, I doubt China is spending $14,000 on one toilet seat, so the bloated US military budget probably doesn't even convert to proportionate fighting capabilities. For example, all that money and the US can't even manufacture enough artillery shells to keep Ukraine going against Russia and it's tiny sliver of expenditure on that chart.
