Unelected and unaccountable - a perfect combination for the head of state.

Task failed successfully.

There's already evidence in the UK that a progressive approach works, but it has been forgotten about. Middlesbrough police trialled a scheme where they provided heroin users with their fix. All of a sudden, the users stopped committing offences to raise money for their habit, which in turn deprived dealers of a lucrative source of income.

Something, something, invisible hand of the free market and Social Darwinism. Dead people can't be in poverty, right? Problem solved!

Criminalising the users has worked so well with other drugs, hasn't it? The war on drugs will be won any second now...

I know Buddhism teaches that life is suffering, but I'm pretty sure the idea is to reduce suffering, not spread it.

So what should we do next time there is another global pandemic? What's the alternative?

Lockdown has made me realise that people don't crave freedom, they instead crave a lack of responsibility to a sociopathic level. They are unwilling to consider a greater good nor anything else beyond the immediate effect on themselves.
