  • Another option I see is them being staying a long time in labs/hospitals, both for being helped getting back on tracks and being studied by scientists as this is a very rare and interesting case

  • As an anarchist, I respect their decision in the sense that participating in the state is fighting for the state.

I would tell them to vote though, and I myself vote when its needed, to avoid getting utter bastards as 'legitimate' leaders. Here in France it's even easier because I'm not given the choice between only capitalists and fascists, i can vote for light versions of socialists.

I'm against fines, even light ones. If they are not strictly scaled to income, they always strike harder people who are struggling already than richer ones. And even if they do, it's not fair to be forced to participate in a form of politics you don't want.

  • I'm with you here, satire should be protected, killing people for satire is awful, and Charlie Hebdo have a really dumb and bad taste humor.

  • From what I know and what Wikipedia tells, reactionary means 'who wants to return to a previous social/political situation'. I've also seen it used a lot in anarchist and communist discussions, mainly as a word to describe people that want to bring back the system a revolution changed, or something that changed in society.

I see it as the other side of the 'conservative' coin : you are conservative until the society changes, then you are a reactionary if you want it to be 'like it was before'

In my experience in France, the word mostly describes right wingers who fight against social progress : inclusivity, diversity, etc.

  • nothing in your comment is related to being gay, it's all about being a family/couple

I'm with you on the fact that missing the family parts kinda does misrepresents the atrocity, but it's not the gay part that can bring it up, it's the family one

As other said, it would be more appropriate to say "couple" or "dads" than "gay dads" imo

  • Well I mean it may depend. Where I worked one third of the crew was the vinemakers themselves, another third was their close family, and the last third was minimum wage workers. It was of course smaller vineyards than what the article is speaking about but for some cases it is indeed middle class vinemakers hand picking grapes.

Nonetheless, this does not make your conclusion false, worlds indeed runs on poverty labor.

  • I have no drawers but at least one box per room for this purpose

  • Oh yes, Im dumb sorry I meant geocentrism but just used the word written above x)

  • I think the problematic part of heliocentrism geocentrism is more "the sun is rotating around the earth" rather than "we are at the center of universe"

  • Im surprised to see that many people disliking christmas, seems like 50/50 in the comments, i would have expected something like 30/70

I find it stressful, i dont like feeling judged about how i give and receive gifts, having to be nice around my extended family even when they are mean or boring, the elaborate cooking, etc.

Im much more comfortable with new year's night : no fixed traditions, usually with friends rather than family, overall simpler and just focused on being with people i like.

  • Okay thanks for sharing your experience, it seems indeed a very good example of how bad it can be Thanks also for the explanation about the instance in the answer

  • For people saying it's a weakness because it causes or is caused by censorship from the mods, are you directly experiencing it? If yes, on which instance?

I got involved in a few heated discussions with members, but I was never bothered by any moderator/admin. I'm not sure if this is due to my views (anarchism / libertarian communism) but I don't think so since they are not the ones of the main instances I roam (.world which seems quite soc-dem to me and all the tankies one).

To me all of this seems like an overall positive thing : the lack of hardcore far right dudes is a big plus, and I don't think the political views can really influence the quality and quantity of content you can propose otherwise (which is to my eyes why there is not that much people here). Like I don't think rightwing people will flee from Lemmy because of the political thing, but like i think most people do: mostly because there is not that many people and therefore that many content to begin with. But there again, I never directly experienced or witnessed political censorship or exclusion, and it seems a common experience so i might not have the best point of view.

  • That's an interesting posts succession

  • I have 19°C for daytime, 17°C at night and I admit it's quite comfortable overall. But me and my partner's feet still feel cold though, so it might be partly due to the actual temperature, partly due to a psychological bias that makes them feel really cold since they are way colder than the rest of the body.

The usual temperature around me (center of France), at work and as default on devices, is 20-21. I never thought about what it was in other climates, I guess you are in a colder region than me, or that energy is too expensive. Maybe I'll lower a bit more my actual temperature target
