I’ll be honest, I had to read your comments a couple of times to get the crux of what you were getting at. It’s tough trying to translate our depthless thoughts to a quick comment on a website so a lot of times I don’t comment. Or, if I do, I preface it by stating that I agree with the problem/issue, then I state my case/thought and then reiterate that agree again at the end because it doesn’t matter if it’s Lemmy, Reddit, or some other part of the internet, people read quick and then type something to get a response or make themselves feel better, unfortunately most people aren’t looking for a discussion. And, a lot of time the best discussions come from situations like this where a couple of back and forth comments gets to the real point.
Also good point on dictionary definitions and the use of literally.
Shit, someone gets the plague here every year, it’s even more common in New Mexico.
When I first moved to Colorado, I was definitely surprised the first time I saw something about bubonic plague in the headlines but I’ve lived here long enough that it’s just something that happens every year or so, it’s pretty much always isolated and most of the time the person recovers.
More people die hiking in this state than from plague and I don’t think that’s going to stop people from hiking anytime soon. Same with skiing and I’ll be on the slopes come winter.
To your point, I think it’s acceptable to call selling your body in a variety of ways prostitution. South Park has an episode from an early season about Kenny, Johnny Knoxville, and Tom Green doing gross stuff for money, in the episode Jesus calls the boys out for helping to make Kenny a prostitute. All that doesn’t change the dictionary definition of prostitution which is what the capuchin was participating in. From the Wikipedia article called “Prostitution”:
Prostitution is the business or practice of engaging in sexual activity in exchange for payment. The definition of "sexual activity" varies, and is often defined as an activity requiring physical contact (e.g., sexual intercourse, non-penetrative sex, manual sex, oral sex, etc.) with the customer.
I’m trying to think of something that was somewhat popular to make this more interesting. I’ll say Paperboy, I had a friend who really liked it but I never cared for it. Even when it showed up on emulators or retro game packs, it’s was always annoying and boring to me.
The capuchin engaged in sexual activity for payment, call it what you want but that pretty much the dictionary definition of prostitution. It’s not a moral or god question it’s semantics.
If you’re going to come at me with a link about Ukraine, please make sure it’s from a website that’s not run by this guy:
Ben Aris: There’s a narrative in the mainstream media about, you know, "Stand with Ukraine and never report the negative stuff, only report the positive stuff." But people I deal with, professional investors in particular, they're interested in what's actually going on because they've got money in the game in the form of investments and assets.
I don’t think the negative stuff shouldn’t be reported but fuck him and his professional investor friends.
BTW: Ben Aris has controlling interest in the company that owns the link you shared and got his start in journalism in Moscow.
Where are you reading that is a radar for ICBMs? The article just says a Krasukha radar jammer is reported to be there. Reading the Wikipedia article for these systems indicate that they can jam the radar for UAVs and drones. Since Ukraine has been using drones heavily, I can see why they would attack. I’m not saying that it doesn’t work against ballistic missiles but it’s seems like they have a lot of other applications to Russia’s war effort.
Let me start by saying, I believe in human caused climate change, I believe it’s the biggest threat to the world at large currently.
I have to ask did any the doom and gloom people in this comment section read the article? Specifically the part where it says that it’s happens there every three to five years? I live in Colorado and have experienced snow in the mountains in summer. In fact Arapahoe Basin is still open to skiing for another two weeks this year. Sometimes it’s going to snow in the mountains in June.
I may be wrong but I believe dish soap is an alkaline/base and I know vinegar is acidic. If you mix the two, they are going to neutralize each other. I’d try just the vinegar and some hot water, that’s I use to clean water scale build ups.
Wait, this is a joke? I’m pretty sure we talked about the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl at the annual “You didn’t vote Republican so you’re part of the Deep State” meeting back in August
If you like Rage Against the Machine, Tom Morello did a solo project called The Nightwatchman that had a lot of great protest songs. I think it’s closer to 15 years old, so not the last 10.
I think we agree on a lot but would rather see congress do their jobs and take responsibility than for them and the US public to have an over reliance on one person we hope will do the right thing.
Yes, the lesser of two evils, the thing that brought us to our current situation in the first place. How about no evils? How about we actually hold those we elect accountable rather than just letting them throw up their hands and hope the President does something.
I know you and I are only two people but shouldn’t we encourage dialogue and finding common ground? I know one party is out of their mind right now but taking their agency from them and saying you don’t know what to do because your stupid and I know better doesn’t help, it breeds more discontent.
If a court enjoins you from doing something that needs doing, put on a silly hat and keep doing it, and tell the court "no, this is totally different, I'm doing it while wearing a silly hat, your order didn't mention anything about this silly hat." And when they enjoin your silly hat, get a silly wig and keep doing what needs doing.
Sounds like you’re okay with Fascism as long as the party you like is in power.
