  • The frogs have been boiled for too long for there to be any chance of that happening. If they wouldn't side with democrats and remove trump from office after Jan 6, they're not going to switch sides now, when doing so would tank their party for ages

  • How exact are we getting? I'm an "assistant term professor", but I'm not an associate or tenure-track position, nor am I an adjunct. So i imagine if just people in my middling position disappeared, we might be fine, a bunch of adjuncts get a raise and a stable job, universities might have to reduce admissions or pack their classes, but we'd probably be fine in the long run. If all college professors disappeared, though, society might collapse. Suddenly you have millions of college students with incomplete educations who need to go somewhere. The brain drain on the world would be immense, and with the death of university-led research, we'd probably enter a dystopian future where all new research is being done by corporations.

  • ROM hacks of gen 3 games are pretty fun, and the most up to date ones are very high quality.

-Pokemon Gaia is my favorite, still feels like a classic pokemon game and its really polished. No postgame yet though, there's a big update thats been "coming soon" for a few years, but the devs say they're still working on it.

-Pokemon Unbound is by far the most complex pokemon game in existence, with content up to gen 8, side quests, mechanics from later games, and tons of postgame content. Also a more "adult" storyline, although I think that actually detracts from the feeling of a pokemon game

-Altered Emerald and Polished Crystal, if you want to play expanded versions of official games

-One that people usually recommend is Pokemon Glazed, but i don't really like that one. It's a big game but the balance and pacing of it is way off.

  • Recently I've been playing a massive minecraft map called Drehmal, which got a big update a few weeks ago. It's kinda like if someone made an elder scrolls game in minecraft, with lots of exploring, loot and lore to find. Unfortunately I think something about the map, either the mods needed to play it or the size, doesn't agree with my computer and I will get a crash after a few hours of play. So maybe I should find something else.

  • Do you like audioboks or podcasts? Listening to something while running really helped me to find more interest in running/walking more. You do need a good pair of headphones so that they don't fall out of your ears, though.

  • ADHD really hinders my enjoyment of the game. Real DND is my favorite thing in the world, but it takes so long to do things in BG3, and I get distracted and can't hold myself to playing for a very long time, and it just makes me wish I were actually playing the real game instead of through a computer.

  • Do you like BLTs? I used to hate tomatoes, and then someone recommended that I try to make a BLT with some green tomatoes. They have a bit of a different flavor and smell than regular tomatoes and are really good with a little salt. That sort of opened the door for me to actually start liking regular tomatoes.

  • Yeah, what we're witnessing right now is Musk downsizing to the point that he can basically operate it at a loss indefinitely. It'll stay around until everyone leaves and he's only left with bots and his own echo chamber, which could take a while.

  • This is such a weird change that has happened in the last decade or so. I remember the comments on youtube videos being the absolute worst. There were definitely memes about "Youtube comment section being vile". I think that an improvement in moderation tools, plus a switch to an engagement model (aside from all of the negatives that brought) really changed the culture of commenting on youtube.
