There is no reason why the complaint can’t be specific to modifying just attribution and commission cookies. And ad blockers mostly work by blackholing DNS request to ad servers and manually editing DOM and removing elements that load content from known ad services. If an ad blocking extension modifies cookies it’s typically just blocking them entirely (something every browser has built in) not editing them.

If you don’t know what you are doing and ask LLMs for code then you are gonna waste time debugging it without understanding but if you are just asking it for boiler plate stuff, or are asking it to add comments and print outs to console for existing code for debugging, it’s really great for that. Sometimes it needs chastising or corrections but so do humans.

I find it very useful but not worth the environmental cost or even the monetary cost. With how enshittified Google has become now though I find that ChatGPT has become a necessary evil to find reliable answers to simple queries.

Just the UX rather than the UI. It’s also missing some features like quote tweets. But it can be confusing to onboard either your own instance and know that your discoverable or to join an instance and know how discoverable you are.

Like I am a career man in IT, servers, and networking. I have no idea if I were to run my own instance, who exactly on the network would be able to see my public posts

I use Facebook to communicate with my HS classmates as I have been in charge of organizing our class reunions and no one wants to be contacted on platforms. (Not that I blame them)

However as soon as our 15 year reunion comes around this summer, I’m gathering email addresses and will organize the 20th via email because I’m deleting my account after that. If people want to get together for our 20th they can either give me their email or can plan it without me.

Mastodon has a post only to followers feature, admins will be able to see those posts (because they would have to be able to if they are to send them to your followers on their instance) but other than that, it’s private.

Now mastodon isn’t a one to one replacement like friendica but it doesn’t seem like there isn’t a reason they couldn’t make a similar feature as far as I know

100% if he is breaking the ToS on multiple instances (and I would argue that spamming most likely is, not to mention the substance of the content)

He can always create his own instance and anyone who wants to see his content can join it as well. Instance admins shouldn’t feel obligated to give anyone a platform (ahem, .world), the fediverse is decentralized and democratic.

My advice is that we don’t always have to engage with with every opinion on the internet.

I especially consider this advice when an .ml or other far-left instance user posts tankie propaganda, rather than engage with it or make a meta post about it, just ignore it. Block the user and move on.

There are many many inherently negative and unhappy people online, not just here. These kind of people aren’t going to be swayed by random comments, they will just trap you in their negativity.

Everyone should empower themselves and use their individual moderation tools like block or mute, they may find they have a better experience. Not that we should block any one who disagrees with us, but there’s no reason to be brought down by someone who finds it their life mission to harass or bring down an entire group of people.

It’s usually more specifically user hostile monetization based on their dominant market position from taking losses for so long that their competitors couldn’t compete.

I’m sure that meta doesn’t have backups so that makes this an effective form of protest
