  • Lemmy world is probably the most centerist instance that hasn’t been defederated. Lemm.ee are sh.it.just.works are probably good replacements if she thinks it is just to far left wing but it’s probably that she is seeing .ml or one of the other various socialist instances.

She will need to utilize her block list to block tankie users and communities if she doesn’t want to see them. A lot of entrenched users are here because they realized that mainstream platforms were enshittified a lot earlier because they of their anti capitalist views

  • At the very least though, at least the algorithms are open source so we know exactly how hot, rising, and scaled are sorted in Lemmy at least and so people who want those algorithms can choose if they wish and those who don’t want them don’t have to have them.

We should train people to mindfully find content. Content discovery algorithms just encourage shitposting. Just put the top posts by favorites or boosts or whatever they are called on Pixelfed in a special trending feed and then just sort your follows by chronological and local by chronological. But as long as their is options, I won’t complain.

  • I mean people like mastodon and it’s full of the same takes. But on mastodon if you post a pro capitalist post to your timeline, people just ignore. Unlike on Lemmy where you have to post it on a post that’s likely to garner a response

  • I’ve promoted it and it has plenty of subscribers, it just doesn’t have a lot of regular activity. It’s not my community anyway, I’ve just been trying to steward it the last two seasons. I think it’s more just become more of a place to chat about fantasy football than an active place ask for and give advice for fantasy football. I’m fine with that as well.

  • I don’t know if @GreenEngineering3475@lemmy.world has a bot that automatically posts news from a feed or is just a diligent poster but he is always posting relevant news to the NFL community.

For college football, @g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world and @ToasterOverlord@fanaticus.social do a great job modding and make sure that community has content.

The CFB community has really active game threads and even a community poll, the NFL community is more for news but it’s very helpful for me to follow the news in the league and most posts get at least a few comments.

  • I’m for the sink or swim mentality. Point them here and if they come up with an excuse to not be here then they probably weren’t going to be a good contributor anyway.

I’m fine with being selective. There is no reason we need 1M+ MAU for the sake of the network, we aren’t trying to turn a profit

  • Instances that don’t vet users sufficiently get defederated for spam. Users then leave for instances that don’t get blocked. If instances are too heavy handed in their moderation then users leave those instances for more open ones and the market of the fediverse will balance itself out to what the users want.

  • Use mastodon and bridge your account to bluesky and ask people who you follow to please follow the bridge (or just join mastodon) so you can interact.

Bluesky is slightly better than twitter in that it’s distributed and does technically have federation. But federation on bluesky means you just mirror the entire network which makes it non-feasible for self hosters and small communities. Not to mention that once they do enshittify that they will probably pull some tomfoolery to keep people from migrating their PDS, to whatever relay they want.
