  • Wait, people really believe writing boilerplate filled bash scripts to implement just the idea of dependencies does scale into enterprise environments? Which don't come even close to emulate most of the very useful and important features systemd provides?

Seriously that's a take I have never heard one say while keeping a serious face. There is a reason systemd is as popular as it is for every desktop and server distro out there.

It is far from perfect, but who in their right mind would want sys-v init or similar systems back? I can't even imagine what a mess it would be managing all the contexts and implementing it securely and portable with an init script.

  • I think the biggest difference is that it is based on Debian and is a bit more conservative. I prefer cinnamon over xfce and in its default even over KDE.

Really, I just assume better hardware compatibility and slightly newer packages from Mint and that's just about it.

Don't read too much into it. There is nothing wrong with MX, Debian or just plain Ubuntu either. In my opinion Ubuntu fixes a few problems Debian has and Mint does the same with Ubuntu. Because apt is widely supported the Debian family is a great choice anyway.

  • If people ask me what distro to choose I say Mint.

Unless you already know what you want and need it is simply the best distro out there to get your feet wet. It is very competent in what it is doing and can be used by anyone no matter the experience.

Even though I believe there are better distros out there this is the only one I would recommend to people new to Linux and it is still a solid choice for experienced users alike. You can use it forever or branch out from there, both are very valid choices.

  • No, I don't use reddit anymore. Kinda. I sometimes visit Reddit due to search results. Otherwise there is not much I miss or care about.

The content isn't as plenty here, but it is still giving me my mindless scrolling fix.

  • Sorry, but aren't potatoes even worse than white bread and sugar regarding the glycemic index? According to google they have scores between 80 and 90 on average while sugar (sucrose) has a score of 68.

I guess starch is really bad. I wasn't aware it has such a high impact.

Don't get me wrong they are not terrible in a balanced diet, but I don't believe they have any real benefits either. Besides they are tasty which is honestly a good reason to like foods.

  • Maybe, kinda. You have to eat them in moderation like anything. They at least provide other useful nutrients.

In my opinion fruits are slightly more beneficial than bread, pasta or potatoes which do not contain as much sugar, but more of other carbs which are in my opinion not much better.

So I see your point, but I don't think they are as bad.

  • Isn't the daily amount like 0 you need? So Infinity % for any added amount?

This is actually an honest question, because you can easily cover your daily needs with other carbs and even those are technically not necessarily as it can be metabolized by fat in your body, but no point in bending the truth here. The body needs sugar one way or the other, but none of them are processed sugars and should probably come from rice, potatoes or bread instead.

  • I don't really have that problem myself, but I fully agree anyway. It does not matter what your use case is. It is 2023, flash storage is cheap and we can get much more storage for any other device for a fraction of the cost. $100 is ridiculously overpriced.

Honestly by now I would have expected 1 TB to be the default, but somehow we got stuck with low internal storage for the past 10 years.

  • Of course there is some propaganda around. That's nothing new, never was. Stop the notion that you are somehow enlightened or have any information others don't have. It is ridiculous.

The thing is big lies historically never lasted long if many people are involved. With digital communication around it has become even easier to receive first party accounts of events.

I honestly don't know what in particular you are hinting at here. None of the things I mentioned would even be terrible if they were lies or have otherwise a huge ilnegative impact. With all the information around it is unlikely that anything is completely untrue though. Not recognizing any of the atrocities and ignoring the situation is seriously terrible though.

Always keep in mind the same argument is also used to deny the Holocaust, other genocides and massacres to this day. It's a huge gamble all for the sake of dunking whoever...

  • That's a difficult question to answer. My intuition tells me that it does not work, because 2 desktop sessions would fight with each other. The applications you export are managed by the local window manager therefore the concept of exporting a whole DE doesn't really make sense. I don't know the answer though and it's just my guess.

What the other answer proposed might be possible though. Take another tty and launch another X session there. It can even be another DE than your primary one. There you can have your own session with its own windows etc. I know for sure that this does work, but you might run into problems if you use Nvidia (at least it was the case a few years ago).
