  • but then on the flipside there's stuff like star trek, which since it's literally the inspiration for cellphones is remarkably normal

even the fucking tricorders aren't that far off these days, just today i used an app on my phone to identify plants automatically for fuck's sake, that's insane!

  • trans men are cheating because they still consider them women, and women aren't allowed to be good at sports.

it somehow always manages to boil down to misogyny with these people

  • 64% of icelanders live in the capital region, which is like two thirds of the US living in maine

  • i'd say you can be atheist and believe in ghosts/spirits, that's pretty different from divine beings

the core thing about divinity is power, power to do things or power to have done things in the past or future. spirits and ghosts generally have power comparable to living people, so the lack of obvious evidence for their existence isn't anywhere near as big of an issue as with deities capable of altering the fabric of reality.

it's not that incongrous that we'd fail to notice things that can barely interact with us, but an explicitly omnipotent and omniscient god? they can damn well write "hey ho here i am!" in the clouds.

  • neurodivergence is seeing a boom in diagnoses because we now actually fucking diagnose neurodivergence instead of going "yeah the kid's a retard dump em in the bin"

  • free? people should be paid to get an education

  • i've definitely seen things like that, i think mostly "artisanal" soaps with like ground coconut shell or something, but the thing is that it tends to look like shit.

  • there is one extremely important thing to teach: pull the skin taut

so long as the skin is taut you're way way less likely to cut yourself

  • holy shit the usb-to-AC cable is real

  • people are expected to teach their kids to wash under the foreskin, and some people apparently think it's just dandy to perform genital mutilation on their children, so no: teaching them to shave doesn't register on the weirdness scale.

  • and this is why people need to be informed of the ultimate legal loophole: the law is simply a collective agreement, if enough people make it clear to everyone else that they think the law is nonsense we can just change it regardless. It's not a magic document enforced by fae.

  • "this is not what we meant by brain plasticity"

  • i assumed it was just glass or similar, maybe the same material as those moisture-absorbing silica packets

  • weeds are plants with the capacity for spite

  • that's where you just stop trying to process things, if someone tries to talk to me while we're walking next to a loud road i just give a small laugh and shout something like "AFTER THE TRAFFIC ENDS"

  • yeah but you don't eat the pinecone lol, you pry it apart to get to the non-wooden bit, because basically the only things that eat wood are fungi and beavers.

  • there's still a lot of people who live in a place with a yard, and if most of them come together to require the ability to keep chickens there then it'll be untenable for that permission to be denied by HOAs/landlords/local government

  • lmao, oh the horror, a leftist on lemmy

  • that's moving the goalposts, the previous poster claims that you simply cannot tell the difference between sounds that don't exist in your native language, which is fucking obviously false and they should be ashamed of posting something like that
