I use Lemmy now because of Sync but I really hate the normal web UI. It's awful. I wish they would update it to make it more pleasing to the eye. I simply avoid Lemmy when on my PC.
I've never had prime. Whenever I look at Amazon now it's basically a local AliExpress with loads of cheaply made Chinese stuff. Amazon is not cheap anymore either. eBay is always cheaper.
Because Lemmy has a hard-on for Linux and FOSS so loves to shit on Microsoft. I'm personally, albeit slowly, moving over to Linux but it's not been a straight forward ride that people make out that it is. I often hit an issue and just reboot into Windows to get what I need done without having to spend hours troubleshooting.
I'm a real ale drinker and moved from the Midlands to the south coast. I was paying £3.20 for a really good real ale before I moved. I was paying £4.60 for an ale after I moved. The last time I looked they went up to £4.90. I'm sure they're over a fiver now. For £7 you can get 4 x 500ml bottles from a supermarket for the same beer.
People moan about Spoons but their beers are usually less than £3. I've even seen one that was doing £1 for a pint. I used some 50p off tokens I had from CAMRA. Three pints for £1.50. Theres a reason their pubs are always busy.
I'm all for supporting pubs but they've priced me out.
That's the point yes. At some point I'm sure they will work it out. But they haven't yet. Luckily the eldest is lazy. If he wasn't he would have read the email he got when he was 13 which meant he could leave the family group which I also use to turn off their devices for bed time...
They find ways yes. When I was blocking YouTube I found him watching YouTube via Spotify. Not sure how that worked. But I blocked that too as a result.
I don't think they have anything currently as when it's blocked you see them outside their bedrooms a lot more!
I've ran Pihole for years but switched to NextDNS. It gives me more control over my kids access.
For example scheduled access to YouTube and Roblox. Also, since it's a public service it means I can block them regardless of network. So for example when we are on holiday. My eldest worked out he could use network data on his phone to avoid the Pihole.
Oh, and it's DNS over TLS so queries are now encrypted rather than plain text that regular DNS.
None of this will block YouTube ads though. For that I use NewPipe or Firefox and uBlock Origin.
