  • I worked normally hour, I just didn't need a full apartment. You going to start your work day there's breakfast you work there's lunch you work until 5:00 and then you go to the gym and then you go back for dinner when you do something cool in the city. I actually have really fond memories of that period.

  • As a person who worked at one of these cool tech companies that provided food for breakfast lunch and dinner and snacks 24/7, I found I was only using my apartment to sleep. Most of the offices of other amenities such as a gym, and all the tech workers would go out for happy hours. If I was single this would be a very valid option. Some people don't plan to spend time in their apartments.

  • People en mass make "economic" decisions. If they view an alternative such as lemmy as too difficult to use, or their communities are not here they will rather tolerate the ads. Learning to use a new app or having to start the community themselves is too much effort for most people.

  • Lemmy will need a trust and safety team, but those can be expensive, and it would be an operational challenge for every instance to have experienced people. Would probably work best if there was a T&S collective and instances can elect to use them as a resource.

  • Work motivation content is a funnel into this kind of content. You watch a whole short form video about someone talking about work ethic with the hashtag #motivation and you will probably start getting Peterson and Tate clips

  • People keep talking about the largest wealth transfer in history.. but that money is staying with the one percent. Normal people don't have their lives set for them based off inheritance. I honestly know more people who will be supplementing their parents retirement more than anything.

Btw is your name a reference to Kyrgyzstan?

  • I dunno if the bad is all bad. As long as you communicate you can't trust people who lie casually about little things, and are a relentlessly honest yourself- it's all fair game

The ugly: same thing happens when people take my family's substance abuse history lightly. Some things will always be delicate and will always require professional help.

  • Karaoke god over here!

I hope you don't internalize the language of your transitioning journey as ugly. A person being true to themselves is a very beautiful thing. I wouldn't know about living that experience, but I think you probably aren't giving yourself enough credit.

  • Being reliable is an asset I always look for in friends. I hate when people flake..

Did you sleep better before your issues with alcohol? I worked in a rehab, so I'm a little familiar with disordered drinking. Do you think it's a physical addiction or a tool for coping with the loss you have had to deal with over the past 3 years?

I wish you grace during your hard times friend. It can get better.

  • Your username is a good goal to follow. People so often try to say they can fix things quickly. In reality sometimes things just get a little better and a little better over time until they are good again. Baby steps are still momentum!
