  • Noted, thanks for good intel!

  • Great tips - appreciate it a lot! The display tip especially as it wont be connected to any extra displays most of the time. The PC also won't be for any photo/video editing. Strictly making music but also the occasional games here and there - nothing too heavy, but enough to require a discrete card.

  • Been looking at a Thinkpad X1 Gen 11. It has pretty good everything (can spec it myself via their website) however it "only" has a Integrated Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics. I'm not too familiar with how these integrated graphic-cards work so im not sure it will fit my workflow or not. As far as I've understood it will be sufficient but if I were to want anything a little more graphic heavy then it will limit performance. What's considered the middle ground between Integrated graphics and a 4070?

  • good to know, thanks!

  • Fl studio and Cubase are the two main pieces of software used.

  • Can confirm! I screen share all the tile and I take advantage of this. Love Vesktop ✨

  • Dayz, 3500hrs and still ticking.

  • They have different projects there each year, but it's based on what people talk about and use. AFAIK, there has been almost none links for updates to OMV here on Lemmy for example nor do I personally hear about it very often.

Also, they'd didn't even include Unraid as an option in this survey so it's a bit weird to call them out for that?

Yes they do have some advertising, but it's completely tracking free and not those stupid dynamic adds other podcasts go for. It's not an easy job keeping multiple podcasts series alive with barely any advertising. So in this case I'm happy unraid sponsor them, it's highly relevant to the show/listeners and it's an amazing NAS OS.

I'm sure OMV is a great OS, but compared to other options such as TrueNAS or proxmox it's nearly never mentioned.

  • I was in your exact same boat a year ago, and decided to try both solutions. I ended going with the streamlined one. As you said, you are already paying for the service and Proton Pass is imo a pleasantly nice password manager to use. It is a lot easier to create and delete aliases there than through Bitwarden/DDG, at least that was my experience. Proton pass is now my most used day to day app list and I'm very happy with it.

While all eggs in one basket isn't great from a security stand point, I am pretty happy with this solution. I do however keep 2fa in separate app, Ente Auth.

  • Both Lutris and Heroic Launcher allows for integration with GOG accounts. Worth checking out.

  • No not all Debrid services are under the same jurisdiction. The reason this has been a topic lately is because most of these services have been hoisted out of France specifically. And the French are extremely strict when it comes to copyright and DMCA, to the extent that they actively hunt down the individuals hosting such services through their social media. One fine example of this here. .

So essentially just need to stay away from countries hosting their services through France as it's more likely to get shut down.

  • Hahaha this got me good, just finished watching Silicon Valley.

  • Do as you wish, pay for what you want to pay for - its your money.

That being said; these services will have to comply with French law. Real-Debrid probably didn't have much choice to do what they did as they were hit with a formal notice from the French Federation of Film Distributors (FNEF). The french have been for a long while now been trying very hard to remove as many of these services as possible. First it was Hadopi agency, now merged with the Higher Audiovisual Council to form the more powerful regulator Arcom. Here's a SS from this article about their anti-piracy efforts in 2022.

Similar services that are hosted in France will have to comply the second they get a notice from Arcom. France is obviously way more committed to removing piracy I'd say its a good call to not pay into french services... Personally, I wont be paying for services hosted in France as I believe its only a matter of time before more are struck down.

  • I have crossed out All-Debrid too as that is also hosted in France and is bound to be hit by the same hammer as Real-Debrid was.

  • Not sure myself, just went with one month of Premiumize to test that first. Will then try the rest too see which service suits me better.

Ah NVM... Debrid Link is also French.... https://debrid-link.com/legal

  • Not sure tbh. Guess it depends what you are downloading and if you are using their service directly and not through their API. They will not block and ban people downloading stuff from their banned lists and their API can no longer be used.

It's better to switch Debrid Service to support someone willing to host a better service imo.

  • In short: it's gone "full legal" mode. Blocking most used streaming sites and removed their API access. So it's literally unusable for folks sailing the high seas.

  • Very clever, thanks for sharing!

  • Bitcoin shills or not, the focus of this manifesto is privacy - not anything crypto. Just because they're into Bitcoin shouldn't discredit the importance of this message. The fact that they're passionate about privacy, regardless of their other interests or affiliations, is what matters most imo.
