Yeah, given the Fediverse's much smaller amount of active users and its shorter history, it barely has niche communities nor a wealth of specific knowledge. Anyone who wants the Fediverse to be able to support that role that Reddit currently fulfills of non-corporate information has to know that there's a very large road ahead and it needs active building.

Personally I find it really cool that they reanimated Nixon's corpse to make the head's voices.

Newspapers and TV channels know how to use their teeth - and can be bought. Buying the internet might be a bit beyond their budget.

The productive capabilities of the country haven't ceased to exist. As long as that remains true, inflation is going to create wacky, uncertain, annoying situations, but it doesn't have to provoke severe destitution as long as other safety nets are in place.

If we're talking about X, you argue A, I counter with B, and instead of counter-arguing you just jump to a different point or framing, you just don't want to admit that your premise didn't hold much weight to begin with. "I want a system that rewards hard work" "This system doesn't reward hard work" "Whatever, I want risk-taking people to be rewarded" You aren't so much arguing as you're rationalizing your position, rather than sincerely taking a look at your own argument when it's challenged.

They're extremely online and outjerking each other in a feedback loop, and the moment you see one, chances are that you're in a space where they're overrepresented.

Given that the goal of this instance is to serve as a reference of the Fediverse, it is expected that it will continue to grow, and in turn, attract more attention, which due to a game of numbers also involves more trolls and enemies. Thus, the fact that the instance is being DDOS'ed right now shouldn't be seen as a conjunctural problem, but rather a challenge that is here to stay and sometimes be a problem.

While I think it's a good idea for lemmy.world to do it this time, relying on a police force to routinely come to our call and do something means periods during which the instance will be out while we wait for them for work. The instance, and Lemmy in general, should have more robust defenses so that calling for external help is only required at exceptional times.

If you're are literally working so hard that you're 100 times more productive than someone earning minimum wage, take a vacation. If you don't want to, it's clear that money isn't what motivates you the most when you choose to continue working.

Of course, you must be really ignorant to believe that people earn 100 times more than someone earning minimum wage because they're 100 times more productive. Your capacity to produce is not the same as your capacity to earn money.

Note that the EFF is a minority party that is nowhere close to getting the government. Mandela's party, the African National Congress, is nowhere the same at all. Don't let idiots conflate the two.

Some important distinctions that must be made:

Resisting active colonization is a fair goal, but these people aren't calling for the expulsion of people who consciously made the decision to invade their country, but for the ethnic cleansing of the descendants of those colonizers too, which doesn't make it any less of a call for genocide.

Reclaiming reparations and economic justice is fair. You can do it by investigating crimes committed during apartheid and finding out which wealth comes from taking advantage of an unfair economic framework based on exploitation and racism. If you go through the route of claiming "all white people in South Africa are colonizers and therefore may be stripped of property", the logical conclusion is that a poor white dumbfuck who was born after Mandela's rise to power, didn't get an inheritance of some sort, but worked hard and bought a small plot of land should receive the same treatment as Elon Musk's father, which is an insane take and not based on a desire of economic justice, but on identitarian, racist lines.

Agreed with the take that Ukraine is going to have a difficult road ahead if they want to join the EU. But that shouldn't be the end of the discussion. We can set up EU-Ukraine deals like we have with Norway, UK, Switzerland and many other countries in the meantime. Deals to guarantee Ukraine's defense and to provide help in the reconstruction of the country should have high priority.

The solution will definitely require one or several bots or drones of some sort, but even the act of getting the bot inside might trigger a trap that damages the room itself. I suppose the archeologists will eventually have to request resources to set up a combined team that involves engineers.
