During the Olympics I was passing through the living room, the wife had been watching an event and it was in between bits. The pole vaulting was on, and my only thought was:
How the hell did this become a sport?
So I looked it up. Numerous cultures from around the world used poles to vault across rivers, and marshy bits. Which ties us into the meme. What they did before was vault....or get thrown
Half is a bit conservative. For non news/politics stuff, it's a fraction that has anything to do specifically with the USA. If it's news/politics related it's well over 75%
My wife has had the same rule, then we moved, now I'm the lender, not the borrower. This means I have an excuse for buying new tools. That and my current job and side jobs are requiring some specific tools that I don't already own.
The reason it's there, that 9/10 of a cent or pence or w.e is the same reason why lot's of prices are $XX.99. It seems like it's a lot cheaper than the 1 cent or 1/10th of a cent that it actually is. For fuel specifically, it started to be added so that gas stations could pay new taxes implemented in 1934(USA), but still make a profit. Back then the cost/gal of fuel was pennies, so adding a full cent to the cost to cover those taxes was deemed a deal breaker, since sometimes it would be ½-¼ 1/10 the cost of the gallon.
My understanding is that phosphates are no longer used, and that most "glow in the dark" tattoos are actually glow under UV tattoos now.
