  • How likely are you to not be able to access the internet at a UK border you might be traveling through? Seriously.

There's been quite a few times where I've not been able to access the internet through my phone at major airports in the UK. Heathrow, Luton, Glasgow. I didn't have an active UK SIM I wasn't able to get net connection through the WiFi as they were overloaded/having issues. This is not uncommon.

Also, have you heard of a download for offline usage?

See, it's not a multi-use thing, it's not like a membership card or a boarding pass or a credit card. It's a code that's generated by logging into the .gov site, and is only valid for a single use, and a limited time.

  • I had an argument shortly after the great migration. Someone had posted a video essay on something gaming related and the person I responded to was adamant that a video couldn't be an essay. It was a two hour deep dive into the topic, with graphs/journalistic photos/news video snippets, and the video info section had a citation list longer than your arm.
This person couldn't understand that just because the creator had decided to present their essay in video format, didn't mean it wasn't an essay. All they had to say basically boiled down to:
only stupid people watch a video this long when you could read the equivalent amount of information in less than half the time.

Needless to say, that got my hackles up a tad.

  • So I work annualised hours, based on a 35hr work week. So summer hour are Mon thru Fri 41hrs total, winter is Mon thru Thurs 31hrs total. I actually like the setup, as a mason I'd actually not mind doing longer hours than we are in the summer and even shorter in the winter, as the weather is too shit in the winter to actually get anything done anyway.

  • I immigrated to the UK from Canada with my cat. He was able to go below in the cargo area. I had to get him a few rounds of rabies vaccines, microchipped and a pet passport. Then the cost of his flight with mandatory insurance was about $300 more than my flight. He had an extra 4 hours before the plane departed, and 6 after. Some animals wouldn't have had toooo hard a time with it, but he was traumatised. It took him more than a week to come out from behind the couch for longer than to use his litter box and eat.

I'll never be taking him out of the country again.

  • Was it a Lambo, was it in Vancouver, where you driving the truck I was riding in delivering appliances? If so, that was absolutely hilarious, and I hope you're doing good 👍

  • I'm a Canadian immigrant to the UK, from December 1st this year, all Residency proof documents are formed forced digital. As I'm Canadian I can just scan my passport and get in, no visa required. If border control pulls me aside and demands my proof of residency, and I can't access the internet, I may be stuck in a small room for hours or days, or ejected from the country. So that's gonna be fun.

  • Yeah, I'm having a lot of trouble with my Nvidia card right now in Garuda Arch. It's a 1060, so about time to update anyway.

  • Well. Either way doesn't bother OP none, we've established that.

  • Prior to this news....how has it been?

  • No, the if in this case acknowledges that it's pee.

  • That you're gonna have a long wait in the queue to pay for it?

  • The blurb is verbatim the first paragraph of the article. It is clearly not what they meant to say. Should have been proofread better I guess. shrugs

  • The simultaneous raids took place around 6:00 a.m., in what police describe as a series of “pro-Palestinian motivated crimes.”

I'm sure the actual article explains this better than the post blurb. I'm about to read it, so I'll find out in a minute. The blurb however makes it sound like the police raids were a series of pro-Palestinian motivated crimes.

  • Edinburgh specifically, but yeah.

Edit: thought I was replying to a reply to a comment I made on a picture of a sunrise in Edinburgh, yeah, first full day up here was a shock. "What do you mean it's 30 seconds past 10 and the till won't let you make the sale?"

  • Mine would be mostly the same as yours, but with the added:
Shame about not being able to buy alcohol between 10pm and 10am...

  • This is what I love about living in Edinburgh, granted half the year I'm up and away well before the sun is even considering getting out of bed, but the sky is so... mutable here. Love it.

  • This is a very common term. I encountered it back home in Canada frequently, and just as much here in the UK.

  • What they said is still valid, and the point they were making aligns with yours.

We don't know since that's different for everyone - but we all agree at some point.

That point is, in our societies, the legally mandated limit of blood alcohol content. How many beers does it take to hit that limit? Without some specific knowledge of an individual, literally no one could say with any certainty. We could make generalities:
One beer over an hour, when drank with a moderately heavy meal.

But there's no way to say "This is too many beers!" Because it is entirely a per person situation. Hell, some people wouldn't blow over the limit and be so drunk they can't stand up.

  • Absolutely! Would be just like that bunch of he was actually an illegal!
