Lemmy has pretty much replaced my other social media scrolling. I probably spend about the same amount of time here as I used to spend flicking between fb and reddit, but I spend more time reading and interacting here.
Weird that I'm actually more engaged with a platform that doesn't really have an aggressive engagement algorithm.
In Australia we have the EFA. Inspired by but not related to the EFF. If you want to get involved locally there might be something similar in your country.
Australia sort of has a system like this. You have to have the money to campaign up front, but you can claim back a percentage based on how much of the vote you get. In practice it just means we end up with a ton of minor and single issue parties doing preference deals and trading favours in the senate.
