  • Not to mention the GAAS titles which are competitive in nature. The whales thrive on having a mob of casual players they can crush with their P2W advantage. If the whales were only matched against other whales, they'd win less and play less.

  • I'm using Niagara personally, but I know it's a radically different experience and probably not something I'd recommend to anyone looking for something comparable to Nova. Niagara is also not FOSS if that is a priority.

I know there are some FOSS launchers out there with similar features to Nova that folks on Lemmy have recommended in the past, but I don't know them offhand and haven't used them myself enough to be a judge of quality.

It's probably not even bad sticking with Nova, because at least to my knowledge they haven't gone sketchy yet, but it's something to keep an eye on. Analytics companies typically aren't very trustworthy, especially when it comes to user privacy.

  • Just be careful, Nova Launcher is owned by a user telemetry collection company now and the majority of the original dev team was kicked from the project not too long ago.

That was enough reason for me to lose trust in them and switch to something else. If the app hasn't gotten shady yet, I feel it is only a matter of time.

  • Lee's reputation as an honorable man is something of a fabrication by false lost cause narratives.

The reality is that his reputation and skill as a military leader was overblown, and he was as cruel an enslaver as they come. He felt slavery was a cause worth fighting for, all to protect his/his family's wealth. If he chose to fight for the south in spite of low odds of winning, it's only more indicative of just how strongly he supported the confederacy and the right to own people.

The notion that he only acted out of loyalty to his home state is the work of lost causers trying absolve him of responsibility for betraying his country. This way, he can continue filling the role of (white) people's hero long after his death and get monuments built for him that celebrate and perpetuate confederate ideals. If Lee's decision was normal, one might ask why General George Henry Thomas, another Virginian, still chose to fight for the United States alongside 100,000 other southern unionists who disagreed with secession.

  • FWIW it's pretty common for subsequent production series, even of the same model, to include updated firmware out of the box. That's why we see various jailbreak options which might only work on devices made before a certain date, because later releases already include patched firmware.

  • Absolute embodiment of less is more. Controls are simple but intuitive, you can beat it in one session, there's no major payoff in the end. It's just a game about the journey and the friends made along the way.

I still remember having my mind blown that the other figure I met after the tutorial level was not just an NPC, when I noticed their movements were too deliberate and they were solving some puzzles for me.

I made it all the way to the end of the game with that person. Never knew who they even were until their name showed up at the very end. What a cathartic experience. I've also never been able to achieve anything similar since then.

  • Agreed, those are my only two choices as well.

    • I feel like the first two are basically the same thing and are also asking for a monkey's paw sort of scenario to happen.
    • I don't want to stop shopping because there are things I want that can't be obtained for free.
    • I'm not the tallest, but I don't feel any particular need to be any taller.
    • I don't want my emotions regulated to always be happy, because then you basically never truly are.
    • Followers are overrated and creepy.
    • And I'd never want to forget an ex because I'd end up losing a lot of good memories in the process.
  • Absolutely, here is your recipe on how to make pudding bread:

    1. Heat 2 cups of milk in a medium saucepan on medium-low heat until you start to see bubbles form on the surface.
    2. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt, and 3 tablespoons cornstarch.
    3. Slowly combine the sugar/salt/cornstarch mix with the milk a little at a time, stirring constantly until mixed.
    4. For vanilla-flavored pudding, stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon butter. For chocolate, stir in 1/4 cup cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon butter.
    5. Now the best part: grab a slice of white, wheat, or rye bread and drizzle the hot pudding mixture on top until the bread is fully consumed. Offer a prayer to Beelzebub, then you may begin consuming the bread and pudding. Refrigerate leftovers.

Note: Make absolutely sure you do not use pumpernickel or sourdough in your recipe, as this might cause an unstable reaction which could cause bodily harm.

  • 5 billion is a lot, but it's not quite change the world money.

I'm not looking to go on a murder spree, even if there are people out there who might deserve it. Not to mention that going after other billionaires is basically the one thing that billions of dollars can't insulate you from.

I'd probably find an underserved region of the world, start up a hospital and health clinic, pay for good doctors, and treat patients for free for as long as we still have money.

  • You don't really, other than checking certificates.

URLs are just an address to access content, they don't have much inherent connection to the content that is there. Most legitimate websites use signed certificates to demonstrate validity, but certificates won't tell you if someone infiltrated a legitimate site and uploaded malware to it, for instance.

Avoid http connections in favor of https, as http is unsigned, unencrypted, open traffic that anyone with access to your network can snoop on.
