Oh I'd have been banned as fuck with all the shit that's happened since then. Pro Luigi? Ban. Anti-genocide? Ban. Pointing out that Trump has made himself a valid military target to our own military by making himself a domestic enemy to our constitution? Ban.
We getting into strawman shit, or are you just not paying attention? The suicidal shit came before the military, not because of it. I've got plenty of real faults if you want to make a dig at any of them - no need to make shit up.
You're missing the point - not everyone has the privilege to consider the cause.
Even now as a civilian in healthcare, which sounds infinitely more benign, I'm stuck working for a different flavor of orphan grinding machine in exchange for a paycheck. ...but does that mean I should personalize the evil shit this industry does, like refuse care if someone's too poor, or do provide care but financially ruin them in the process? I'm a surgical tech, soon-to-be nurse: I can't control any of that shit. Should I quit in protest? Cuz that won't change anything outside of severely reducing the quality of my own life.
Same is true of the military: you milk a living out of a shitty system. Are there other options? Sure, but the vast majority of those are shitty too.
I left "I'm a fucking idiot" in there for a reason. Had I played my cards better in the first place I wouldn't have been stuck weighing whether I should kill myself or put myself into that kind of ethical disaster... which probably would have ended with killing myself anyway.
Lucky for me, they made me a medic, so I never had to find out.
Everything he does makes a lot more sense when you consider that he's an enemy of the US actively trying to do as much damage to our country as possible. Attacking Iran is no exception - the following retaliation and economic shitstorm are the point.
Veteran here. It's more like: "I'm a fucking idiot, but I could use some healthcare, and that college thing sounds nice."
Plan B was to kill myself, so I don't feel bad about enlisting - I got what I needed from it.
You'd be amazed how few people join because of cliches like patriotism. That said, it'd be way less fucked if people could get things like healthcare and education without needing to agree to blow themselves or others up.
I mean, in practice, I guess yeah. On paper, it's initiated by a political process, but ultimately it's a criminal investigation. The acquittal was due to the process being wrongfully politicized. In a system that actually followed its own rules, he'd have been indicted and imprisoned for the crimes he's committed against the US.
The system we have will, at best, put on a dog-and-pony show, call it "impeachment", and try to pass that off as actual justice like it did last time.
But considering that impeachment is a legal process and that the current administration has zero respect for or inclination to follow the law, it's not like it'll accomplish shit. Dude needs to be deposed by those who have sworn to defend the constitution from domestic threats (the military) not run through some formal process.
Reddit backstabbing the 3rd party app developers was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Found my way here during that shitstorm. Full deletion of my Reddit accound, haven't looked back. The quality of Lemmy has left me no desire to relapse.
Protests against this neonazi flavor of right wing extremism have been happening for decades. They haven't accomplished shit. To the contrary, things have gotten considerably worse. The protests are ignored. The protests will continue to be ignored so long as they're just noise.
It's based on observing current events through the lens of the education I've received on history. Protests by themselves today require a ridiculous scale to accomplish peanuts; contrast that to MLK Jr's protests during the civil rights movement. His got shit done. Why? Because the Black Panthers were standing by with rifles. Today's protests are all bark from a toothless mouth, so we're allowed to yip away until it's out of our system, then the status quo just keeps trucking along. There's no modern iteration of the Black Panthers to back up all of our nonviolent protests.
The 50501 movement / ICE protests are starting to show promise, but again, scale - we've seen nationwide protests regularly for months, and so far all they've accomplished is being an inconvenience for ICE... in exchange for making themselves a target to multiple facets of the military.
Basically an indie dev crew broke skyrim down to its most basic assets, then rebuilt a completely new game using them. AND IT'S SO FUCKING GOOD. Completely new lore / game universe (has nothing at all to do with elder scrolls, tamriel, etc), new voice acting, terrain, music, you name it.
Steers away from common story tropes to the point that there isn't really an antagonist in the traditional sense - but it uses concepts, emotions, philosophies, etc as the driving force for the main story line and some of the larger quest chains.
This game is an absolute passion project by the devs, which is something we don't see often now-a-days.
Note: link above is to the version that uses Skyrim SE's assets (the 2016 re-release). If you have the original version of skyrim, use this link instead. If you own a different version of Skyrim, there might be a compatible version of Enderal here: https://sureai.net/games/enderal/
Fair warning: the children NPC voice acting is even worse than the kids in Skyrim. The TAI (toggle AI) command can shut them up without breaking them.
Fair warning 2: they redid combat. The OP shit in Skyrim, like the sneaky archer build, will get your ass beat to a pulp in Enderal. Make a save when you get to the point where you can spend some talent points, experiment with a few styles, and go from there.
Fair warning 3: It's built on Skyrim's assets, which means it has all of Skyrim's problems. Step on a basket full of cabbage just right; get launched into low orbit. Quest items clipping through the floor. Bounty that refuses to go away. Shit like that. Save frequently, and don't be afraid to use the command console to do things like magic in a lost item or force a broken quest to progress to the next stage.

I'd have found my way here sooner or later.
