This is cute naiveté. This case will drag on for years and eventually be settled behind closed doors.

And that extra money covers the original down payment, interest that was paid on the mortgage, closing costs, realtor fees, costs to repair, stage, and prep the house for sale, and down payment on the next mortgage. It's a never-ending cycle of spending for more debt. AKA the American Dream.

That's not old, my man. Many of us are having kids in our 40s.

I'm not sure what you're building but you might be over-engineering your wall shelving.

But many are not. Many live in this shit-stain of a state and instead of voting with their feet, stay and complain.

That's what people say but it's rarely worked for me.
