Sadly, I believe you’re correct, as I’ve seen firsthand its effects on someone without cognitive decline.

A few years ago my mother’s demeanor and topics of conversation (I lived 1000 miles away, but we spoke by phone frequently) changed markedly over the course of weeks.

Much more fearful, a sudden focus on border issues, illegals…took a minute to tweak, but then I asked if she’d changed news providers. Uh-huh, Fox it was.

This is a story where it feels like there’s more going on than is being reported.

In the absence of demonstrable safety issues surrounding the structure, on site security will not be enhanced by making the couple move to a distance. IMO the town should be held accountable for any loss to theft, or delay to completing the construction work.

As a more appropriate use of town power, how about fast tracking this octogenarian’s application and permitting, instead of evicting them and making them dependent on government, or an NGO, for housing?

If you’re patient and can self-support, your local non-profits and their online stores may be useful.

It’s rare to see big gear NIB, but it does happen; have seen rack mount Cyberpower, 10 outlet, hi-watt units, IOB going for around $200+ in the last 6 months. Picked up a previous generation, 5 disk NAS for a tenth of its retail price, used.

You’re north of my border so my sites won’t work for you, but seriously, look into any Goodwill/Salvation Army type organizations, and don’t neglect local, they can be rewarding too.
