"In a battle or emergency, where the survival of the vessel (or other protected asset) is dependent upon the continued operation of the equipment, it is sometimes wiser to risk equipment damage than have the equipment shut down when it is needed. For example, the electrical drives to elevate and traverse the guns of a combat warship may have "battleshort" fuses, which are simply copper bars of the correct size to fit the fuse holders, as failure to return fire in a combat situation is a greater threat to the ship and crew than damaging or overheating the electrical motors."
I wish! I know starfleet is the epitome of smarts class and innovative humans, but damn, not one shit or fuck with all the stuff they deal with and mental strain applied regularly?!
This is referencing another show she does called Letterkenny as Mrs. McMurray, where she says the nastiest of things on a regular.
She is only in a little bit in the Strange New Worlds, and nothing like Mrs McMurray, lol. As soon as I saw her though I have not been able to get the idea of her doing a McMurray mumble on a starship. It's a great show though and has some fun and dramatic episodes mixed in.
Wow! I'm have a real Baader-Meinhof phenomenon thing going on! Seen a new fun fact on these little ones a few days ago, fell down a rabbit hole reading a bunch of new stuff on 'em. Then yesterday, a podcast I listen to did a segment on them, right after an intro about their Baader-Meinhof effects reported by listeners to their stories. Thanks!!
Just got back from my family gig and saw this. Sure hope you get to feeling better soon. It seems a rough holiday is going around this year. We lost my cousin who was doing the hosting last week and it made for a somber get together. I have other friends and extended family who are dealing with difficulties too.
I dearly hope everyone had a chance to enjoy themselves at some point and hopefully see or speak to some dear friends and family this year. The love and support of my friends/fam help me through some low times, even though I don't have many physically close to me.
Yours, and all the others you mentioned (and forgot), help me break from the bleak realities I need to disengage from, to re-energize a bit. There are some fantastic conversations I read over, sometimes pop into if I feel I can actually add anything to the conversation. My humor is hit or miss at home but, the shit here always hits right for me and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy while i piss down my leg laughing. And, curious glances after handing my phone over to see "What's so funny?"Sometimes those distractions are exactly what I needed to be back on track and keep on trudging on.
I may look, though it may end up costing me a ton if I go down that rabbit hole. My dad used to get all the Halmark ST ornaments as they came out. They had a little plug that goes into the light bulb socket on the tree lights to light up. He gave those to my cousin after I had expected to get them. If I start with one I know I will want to get them all to theme the tree. Plus they had looked amazing... to me anyway.
Oh yay! Happy birthday to a wonderful actress! It is mine too, and I'm going use this as some kind of brag, or at least a new way to wedge Star Trek into a conversation.
They may have lost the lawsuit...
